Selected materials and equipment, and in some cases, their installation are shown and specified 16 in the Contract Documents by allowances. Allowances have been established in lieu of additional 17 requirements and to defer selection of actual materials and equipment to a later date when 18 additional information is available for evaluation. Additional requirements, if necessary, will be 19 issued by Change Order. 20 21

Types of allowances required include the following: 22 23

Lump sum allowances. 24 Material allowances. 25 Unit-cost allowances. 26

27 SELECTION AND PURCHASE 28 29 At the earliest feasible date after Contract award, advise the Architect of the date when the final selection 30 and purchase of each product or system described by an allowance must be completed in order to avoid 31 delay in performance of the Work. 32 33

When requested by the Architect, obtain proposals for each allowance for use in making final 34 selections; include recommendations that are relevant to performance of the Work. When 35 allowanced work is to be furnished and/or installed by contractors other than the General 36 Contractor, a minimum of three proposals for each lump sum allowance must be obtained 37 before approval of work is granted. 38 39 Purchase products and systems as selected by the Architect from the designated supplier. 40 41

The contractor declares 50 that the Base Bid contract sum includes such sums for overhead and profit on account of cash and lump 51 sum allowances as he deems proper. No demand for overhead and profit other that those included in the 52 Base Bid contract sum will be allowed. The contractor shall not be required to employ for any such work 53
