Constellation Cookies Create a whole sky of constellations on these yummy pan cookies! Suggested Age: 6–10 years

Materials Needed:

ü 2 ¼ cups all purpose flour ü 1 teaspoon baking soda ü 1 teaspoon salt ü 1 cup butter, softened ü ¾ cup sugar ü ¾ cup firmly packed brown sugar ü 1 teaspoon vanilla extract ü 2 eggs ü 2 cups semi sweet chocolate morsels ü 1 small and 1 large mixing bowl ü 15 ½ x 10 ½ x 1-inch baking pan, greased Set Up Time: 15 min Time To Do: 40 min (including baking)

Set Up • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F

• In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside. In a large bowl,combine butter, sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract. Beat until creamy. Beat ineggs. Gradually add the flour mixture. Stir in chocolate morsels, reserving ½ cup tomake the constellations.

• Spread onto greased baking pan. Smooth the top so no chocolate morsels areshowing.

• Arrange ½ cup of the reserved morsels to make the constellations of the seasons(follow the templates attached). Insert morsels “pointy side” down.

• Bake at 375 degrees F for 20-25 minutes. Cool. Cut into 2-inch squares or divideby constellation for giant cookies.

What Else Can We Do? • Make individual round cookies, and use

chocolate morsels to make individualconstellations. Use cake decorating gel tubesto connect the morsels. To find images ofconstellations, see the ConstellationDetectives activity attached.
