ABOUTCONQUESTFORLIFE

ConquestForLife(CFL)wasestablishedin1995inWestbury,atownshiplocated8kmwestof

JohannesburginSouthAfrica.Itwasaninitiativeofagroupofyoungpeoplewhocame

togetherwiththeaimoffindinginnovativeapproachestosocialpressingissuesfacingtheir

communityand,indoingso,makeasignificantdifferenceintheirlives,thatoftheircommunity

andacountryatlarge.Theorganizationhasexpandeditsfacilitiesbyopeningfournew

additionaloperationalbranchesinotherdisadvantagedcommunitiesi.e.thecommunityof

Soweto,Ennerdale,OrangeFarmandPlatfonteinlocatedintheNorthernCapeProvince.These

dynamiccommunitieshavebeencrippledbyapartheideffectssuchasdiscrimination,high

mortalityrateasaresultofHIV/AIDS,highlevelsofilliteracyandpoverty.Itisevidentthat

althoughtheseyoungpeopleofthesevariedcommunitiesrepresentdifferentcultural

backgrounds,thedisparitiesareprevalentcrossculturally.Andthereisaneedforanurgent

responsetothechallengesfacingthemandfosteringofproductiveandsupportiverolemodels.

ConquestforLife(CFL)seekstoinspireyoungpeopletomakeadifferenceandtoexposethem

tochange.Duetoabjectpovertymanyfallpreytothelifeofcrimeanddespondency,asa

result,anger,frustrationandantisociallytendenciesarereleasedthroughrandomactsof

violence,gangaffiliation,crime,anddrugandalcoholabuse.

ConquestForLife(CFL)aimstoempowertheyouththroughmyriadsofprogramsspecifically

designedtoproduceasafeandstructuredenvironmentinwhichtheyouthcanrealizeandhave

accesstothelifeskillsneededtoenrichtheirlives.

byanunemploymentrateof80%,withhighrateofschooldropouts,extremepoverty,

inadequaterecreationaland/orextracurriculafacilitiesandhighsubstanceabuse,butnowCFL

hasgrowntobeanNPOservingtheneedsoffivecommunitiesinSouthAfrica.

OURMISSION

Ourmissionistobeaselfsustainingyouthorganization,runbyyoungpeople,empoweredto

becomeagentsofchangebydevelopingtheiridentity,selfworth,andasenseofcommunity.

OUROBJECTIVES

ConquestFor

Life

(CFL)

has

been

in

existence

for

over

fifteen

years

and

has

worked

to

achievethefollowingobjectives:

DevelopingaSenseofSelfYoungSouthAfricansneedtime,spaceandasafeenvironmentinwhichtopursue

alternativestotheircurrentlifestyles,attitudesandbehaviour.CFLhascreatedand

establishedthisthroughanumberofprojectswhichgivesyoungpeopleavarietyof

opportunitiestoredefinethemselvesfromaminustoaplus,afailuretosuccessand

fromnobodytosomebody.

YouthDevelopment&EmpowermentCFLcontinuestoempoweryoungpeoplethroughitsprojectsandtoofferemployment

opportunitiestosomeofitsbeneficiaries.Empowermentisdonethroughgender

advocacy,capacitybuildingandskillsdevelopment.

StrengtheningfamilyandcommunitystructuresValueSystemsplayasignificantroleinfamilystructuresandfamilycohesion.Itisfor

KhanyaKweyana,Mrs.KhanyaisservinghersecondtermintheBoardandhascontributedsignificantlyinthe

directionoftheorganizationsandwiththeassistanceofCommunityReferenceand
