Club CompetitionOur annual club competition is on 8th November - shortly after the next meeting.

About the competitionThe venue is the Petone Working Men’s Club, on Udy Street, Petone. This is also where our club meetings are held. Note that this year we are in the Games Room rather than our normal meeting room. To find this, head upstairs as usual, turn right instead of left, and look for the sign. If in doubt ask at the front desk for directions.

The club will be providing some food from around 12.30 for club members to enjoy. The bar will also be open for you to purchase drinks - this is a cash bar but there is an ATM in the lobby downstairs.

During the competition we will also be holding our annual buy sell & swap. Bring your unwanted kits, decals, tools, books etc. and see if you can make some swaps or sales with other members. Note that table space is limited and competition entries get priority over items for sale, but don’t let that stop you from making a deal or grabbing a bargain from someone else.

Like previous years, club members aged 18 or over who enter at least one model into the competition receive one ticket for the raffle. You need to hang on to your ticket and be there at 2.30 sharp for the drawing or you will be unable to claim any winnings.

Juniors, while you miss out on the raffle you can win some great prizes in the competiiton - see the Juniors section for details.

Models

that have won 1st, 2nd or 3rd placings at previous Scale Models Wellington IPMS club competitions are not eligible to enter. However, they are most welcome to be brought along for display.

• All other models, including all those entered in our BSK competitions, IPMS Nationals and Scale Models Expos, are eligible for the competition.

• Box stock entries must be accompanied by the kit instructions. No deviation from the kit instructions shall be allowed except for the use of aftermarket decals. Entries received after 12.00 noon will be accepted at the discretion of the competition chairman. Family and friends are welcome to view the competition and display from 2.00pm.

• Entry forms are included with this issue of the newsletter. Please copy as many as you need, and bring them to the competition already completed. This will help to speed up the registration process and issue of entry numbers. Entry forms will also be available at the venue.

• No models are to be put on the tables until they have been registered, and no models may be removed early without prior approval given by one of the above contacts.

• The Ted Staples Memorial Trophy for Best in Show and permanent Best in Category trophies are up for grabs. Would all current holders of these trophies please return them to the committee by the October meeting.

Junior ModellersHi there Junior Modellers,The 3rd October session went well but attendance was still down due to school holidays. Hopefully the last session on the 7th November before our end of year “gathering of the clans” (club competition) will be better attended.

For the club completion next day on the Sunday 8th November, you should enter all the models from BSK plus any other gems built this year. I am relying on those of you who didn’t finish your kits in time for BSK to have them finished for the club competition. (By my count there are still 5 hawks and 2 MTBs which are 80-90% finished). We still have heaps of decals for the Hawks waiting to be used.

If you can’t make it to competition on Sunday the 8th then please ask one of the other juniors if they can bring your models along for you, or see me on Saturday 7th. Your model should be finished, with a completed entry form and well packed to avoid any damage in transit.

Given the nature of judging and the high number of juniors who have dropped out this year, it’s a whole new ball game for the club completion so enter as many models as you can. As you can see at the bottom of this page, we have a great selection of prizes this year.

As an extra motivation, if we have at least 3 separate entries from the juniors and a similar number from the intermediates for the Aircraft and AFV categories, I will look to provide separate prizes for juniors and intermediates for these two popular categories. Don’t forget the trophy for best overall junior/intermediate is up for grabs as well. By the looks of it there are no clear favorites this year so you all have chance to walk away with the trophy provided you enter.

We will bid farewell to one of our stalwarts George Frith at the end of the year and look forward to seeing George’s work in the adult section next year.
