This month, we reached a new milestone in the history of our organization. On June 24, we held an official groundbreaking ceremony to commemorate the construction of our new 153,000 square-foot outpatient medical office building (MOB) and 26,000 square-foot Spagnoli Family Cancer Center on our main campus.

Our MOB will be home to physician and outpatient services and the new Spagnoli Family Cancer Center will provide a

patient-centered healing environment. Together, these projects will create a fully integrated campus with first-class physician care, outpatient care and hospital care all at one convenient location and will continue Orange Regional on its journey of becoming a regional destination for all healthcare services.

Our MOB will be five stories tall and will provide space for 75 primary and specialty care physicians. It will also house state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging technology including 64 slice CT, open bore MRI, PET/CT and 3D mammography – the most advanced technology available for breast cancer detection. We will also have fantastic new operating rooms, procedure rooms, laboratory services, a retail pharmacy and more.

The Spagnoli Family Cancer Center will include radiation therapy treatment, outpatient chemotherapy and have its own healing garden for patients to enjoy. The buildings will be separate, yet located immediately adjacent to each other on the northern side of our hospital. We will also have more than 800 additional parking spaces and expand the road which encircles the hospital campus.

The planning and coordination of this project was truly a team effort with hundreds of people involved in the development, design, financing and construction to get us to where we are today. It takes perseverance and some blood, sweat and tears to make a project like this successful. On this project, many people stepped up at key times including our Board of Directors, the Executive Team and Steve Sugrue, who’s been the project leader from the beginning. I want to especially thank our facilities staff and all those who have been impacted by the numerous moves that were required.

Construction is now in full gear and we expect completion in the fall of 2016. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we move ahead on this exciting new project.

Orange Regional Medical Group is pleased to announce that Michelle Fontaine, MD has joined the medical group practice as a Board-certified Orthopedic surgeon, specializing in surgery of the hand and upper extremities.

Dr. Fontaine earned her medical degree from Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Maryland, completing both her Orthopedic internship and residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii. Her hand surgery fellowships are from Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. She is the recipient of two Army Achievement medals and two Army Commendation medals

recognizing her military service, which includes serving as an Orthopedic surgeon for the 47th Combat Support Hospital stationed in Al Asad, Iraq.

Prior to joining Orange Regional Medical Group, Dr. Fontaine was chief of hand surgery at Dwight D. Eisenhower Medical Center in Fort Gordon, Georgia, and an assistant professor in surgery for the Uniformed Services University. She also held an Orthopedic surgery position at Darnall Army Medical Center in Fort Hood, Texas.

Dr. Fontaine, who is Board-certified in Orthopedics by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery with a subspecialty certification in surgery of the hand, is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a member of American Society for Surgery of the Hand. She is the author and co-author of seven abstract publications focusing on various aspects of Orthopedic surgery.

Mary Kate Revella, RN, BSN has been promoted to Director of Cardiology. Mary Kate joined Orange Regional in 2010 as a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit, where she later began her role as Charge Nurse. Prior to her new role, Mary Kate held the position of a Supervisor for the Centralized Telemetry Monitoring unit, where she created a strategic timeline for implementation of the central telemetry program. She also participated as an active member of the Nursing Shared Governance Council. Prior to joining Orange Regional, Mary Kate worked within the telemetry nursing service at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, New Jersey. Christopher Stimpson has been promoted to Program Manager of Behavioral Health Services. Chris joined Orange Regional in 2004, and began working in Behavioral Health Services as Program Coordinator in 2009. Chris has been an integral part of the leadership team within Behavioral Health Services. In his most recent position, Chris was responsible for coordinating the Performance Improvement Committee as well as facilitating the day-to-day running of Behavioral Health Services. Diane Vinciguerra, RN, BSN has been promoted to the position of Operating Room Director. In her new role, Diane will oversee the daily operations of the surgical suite, working closely with surgeons and staff to provide patients with Perioperative care. Diane will also serve as a member of the Surgical Executive Committee. Diane received both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Nursing from Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida. On May 16, Frank Salvatore, Administrator of Ancillary Services, attended the pinning ceremony at Sullivan County Community College’s (SCCC) 2nd graduation ceremony for Respiratory Therapists, where he also addressed the group. Orange Regional serves as a training platform for students and continues to benefit from the relationship with SCCC by hiring of graduates from both of the graduating classes.

GHVHS celebrated Oncology Nurses Week May 17 to 23. This has been a very productive year for our Oncology Nurses and the Oncology Nursing Governance Committee as well as the local Oncology Nursing Society Chapter in Progress. On Wednesday, May 20, the ChIP held a Roast Beef Dinner at the Elks Lodge in Middletown to raise funds for grants for cancer patients in Orange and Sullivan Counties.

An enthusiastic group of oncology nurses, along with an Orange Regional lung cancer patient and her family joined TEAM ORMC and Captain Jayne O’Malley on May 16 for the Lung Force Walk at the South Street Seaport. Lung Force is an initiative to bring information, resources, and research on lung cancer, COPD, asthma, pulmonary fibrosis and other respiratory issues which impact women, to the forefront. Many thanks to Jayne, our Lung and Head and Neck Cancer Navigator, for organizing our first time participation in this great event which had over 1,000 walkers!

Throughout Nurses’ Week (May 6-12), Orange Regional’s nurses participated in various activities including nursing seminars, lectures, lunches, dinners, blessings, awards ceremonies and ice cream socials. The educational and fun-filled week allowed the nursing staff to celebrate and illustrate what the nursing profession at Orange Regional has to offer. NICU Reunion On May 16, the Rowley Family Birthing Center’s Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) held its 3rd Annual NICU Reunion. Orange Regional NICU graduates, along with their parents and siblings, enjoyed a fun-filled celebration, at the Spruce Lodge, that included a child-friendly brunch and festivities. The event provided an opportunity for Orange Regional’s NICU staff to reunite with the babies they cared for, and the families they provided support to. Additionally, Neonatologist and Orange Regional’s NICU Site Director, Dr. Manuel DeCastro, welcomed families and visited with NICU graduates. Good CatchGood Catch Patient Safety Awards were presented to nurses Donna Charitable, Ceilia Hylton and Geraldine Sweeney of 4 North who demonstrated their commitment to keeping patients safe by “speaking up” to prevent a potential patient safety issue. A Good Catch is defined as an event or circumstance that has the potential to cause an incident or medical error, but that did not actually occur due to corrective action and/or timely intervention.

Nominations will be accepted throughout the year and will be judged by the Patient Safety Subcommittee on the criteria of:

• Likelihood that a patient safety issue would have resulted if the Good Catch did not happen;• Potential impact to the patient(s) if the Good Catch did not happen.Anyone can nominate a staff member, a leader or practitioner. Outpatient Services Expanded Hours To enhance patient convenience, Orange Regional has expanded its service hours for Outpatient Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory services and Women’s Imaging at Orange Regional Medical Pavilion located at 75 Crystal Run Road in Middletown: • Most Diagnostic Imaging at the Pavilion (Ultrasound, X-ray, MRI, CT) is available Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. PET/CT and Nuclear Medicine is available from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Ultrasound, X-Ray, CT, MRI and PET/CT services are available on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. • Women’s Imaging will be open at the Pavilion 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday, and from 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and one Saturday per month from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. • Laboratory services at the Pavilion are available Monday through Friday 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until noon. Laboratory Services are no longer offered at the Main Campus on Saturdays. Out And About At The Orange Classic

Orange Regional’s Emergency Department and Trauma Program took part in this year’s Orange Classic by providing emergency services to runners and the crowd that came out to cheer them on. Our Healthy Heart Program provided free cardiac screenings while Marketing & PR handed out free giveaways! It’s all part of supporting our community!

Relay For Life

Employees from several departments and members of Oncology Nurses of Orange and Sullivan Counties joined Team ORMC for the Pine Bush Relay for Life event on June 6. Team ORMC was totally awesome with an 80's theme in honor of Relay for Life starting in 1985. This particular relay raised over $111K to fight cancer.

On May 29, Orange Regional and the Boys & Girls Club hosted a Big Free Carnival & Safety Fair for the community. The event drew thousands of community members and children for entertainment, games, food and prizes. Orange Regional’s Injury Prevention Program, in conjunction with our EMS Partners, provided free safety car seat checks and 300 free bike helmets custom fitted to all children who took part in our free bicycle safety tips sessions. The event concluded with a fireworks display and a very grateful community!
