Winter/Spring Course Descriptions (Registration is required)

All courses include parent and child engagement opportunities, children's activities and information sharing. Parent Interaction Group A discussion group facilitated by a staff member. Members of the group decide on the weekly parenting topic(s) to be discussed. Parents and caregivers who have previously attended parenting courses are eligible to attend.

Nobody’s Perfect A program for parents developed by Health Canada. With the support of a trained facilitator, parents have the opportunity to meet with other parents of young children to share ideas , questions and concerns about being a parent. Discover ways of positive parenting while learning about child development, safety, health and behaviour.

Multilingual Nobody’s Perfect (Arabic) In partnership with Ready, Set, Go! A program for parents developed by Health Canada and offered in Arabic through a grant from the Ontario Trillium foundation. With the support of trained facilitators, parents have the opportunity to meet with other parents of young children to share ideas, questions and concerns about being a parent. Discover ways of positive parenting while learning about child development, health and behaviour.

Dads Group A discussion group which provides opportunities to discuss parenting topics of interest to dads with children 0-6 years. Moms are welcome too. Circle of Security In partnership with Children First. This parenting course focuses on enhancing relationship capacities. Parents and caregivers will learn about the attachment needs of children while also learning how to support their child’s exploration of the world, help their child organize their feelings, understand what their child’s behaviour is telling them, learn how to read and respond to their child’s cues and promote a secure relationship with their child. Kids Have Stress Too! A program of the Psychology Foundation of Canada with teachable stress management strategies for preschool children. Stress among children is estimated to have increased 45% over the past 30 years. Building emotional health and resiliency can help children concentrate, learn, interact more successfully and deal with other stressors they may face in their lives. Going to School Parents of children entering school for the first time will have an opportunity to network with other parents and receive information about how to make the transition to school a successful one. Positive Discipline in Everyday Parenting Based on the work of Joan Durante, this program sets out four clear principles for positive discipline: goal setting, creating a positive home environment, understanding how children think and feel, and problem-solving in challenging situations.

How to Talk So Kids Will Listen Based on the work of Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish, parents hear information on communication strategies, managing behaviour and building strong relationships with their children.

Infant Massage For mothers and fathers and children ages 0 to 10 months. Infant massage provides a loving connection between parent and baby starting early in life, supporting the strengthening of this attachment as baby grows.
