INTO OSU welcomed a very special program last week! A month-long visit by a group of 30 Mexican teachers kicked off with a welcome picnic at Avery Park. Held in the Maple Grove Shelter on a warm, sunny evening, the group socialized with community volunteers, INTO OSU staff and program assistants.

The program will help develop the teacher’s TESOL techniques and styles and will immerse them in American culture. Group members have been paired with conversation partners and dinner companions who will host the guests in their homes for a meal or two.

The program is being planned by Kathleen Rochester, INTO OSU’s Special Programs Coordinator. There’s a lot more to come, so stay tuned!

1. Center Director Amy McGowan welcomes the group. 2. Paul Campbell, INTO OSU instructor, socializes with some of the participants. 3. The pizza buffet was perused by many. 4. Kathleen distributed food and drink throughout the evening. 5. INTO OSU instructor Carly Gerig sits with a group of teachers and Erin Bontrager, one of the program assistant!

TESOL Connections The iPad pilot program at INTO OSU is talked about a lot in the Center, but now it’s being talked about on a much larger scale: the program has recently been featured on TESOL Connections, the organizations blog! Written by Katie Mitchell, INTO OSU’s Technology Advisor, the article details the progress made on the project and how it’s helping students. Katie was able to show off how tech savvy our Center is. Great job representing INTO OSU, Katie! To read the article, click here.

Corvallis’ Tech Ranking Corvallis has recently been rated as one of America’s leading high-tech cities! Coming in at number 14, Corvallis is competing with metro areas like New York City, San Francisco and Austin, Texas. OSU’s impact in this area is surely a part of this ranking.
