SECOND QUARTER 2011

Connecting directly with customers is a critical aspect of the Evraz goal to be a commercially driven organization. Customers get to learn about Evraz and its product offering, and Evraz gets a better understanding of how customers are using Evraz products to solve problems or fulfill the needs of their customers.

In June, the Evraz Portland mill hosted 39 steel distributors for the Metal Service Center Institute (MSCI) annual product training seminar. The group—composed of current and potential customers—received an in-depth look at the facility’s manufacturing capabilities and operating structure. After

spending the morning in classroom training, the group donned safety gear and headed into the rolling and structural tube mills for an up-close look at the entire manufacturing process: unfinished slab to coil, plate and hollow structural steel products.

“Engaging with these distributors in such a focused setting proved mutually beneficial,” said Kent Thies, National Marketing Manager for the Flat Rolled Products Group. “Interacting with them, sharing knowledge and understanding how to serve their needs better ultimately helps us improve the sales process and align our offerings with what our customers need.”

“The Evraz product training was a terrific blend of commercial, operational and manufacturing knowledge. The Evraz employees were enthusiastic about their jobs and their company, and that enthusiasm was contagious.” – KATHY SPELLMAN Vice President, Education, MSCI

“Our teams are constantly pushing themselves to go further, do better, challenge the status quo and deliver high-quality products that meet our customers’ needs.” – MIKE REHWINKEL

CEO

Energy exploration in the Bakkens region and western Canada is rapidly expanding, and Evraz is taking steps to meet its energy sector customers’ growing demand for oil country tubular goods (OCTG).

Evraz recently announced a multi-million dollar investment to add API pipe manufacturing capacity to its Portland structural tubing facility. The facility is ideally suited to help fill this customer need, both in terms of its geographic location as well as the

manufacturing expertise of the local team. Evraz will supply steel for the API pipe from its sister steel rolling mill next door.

The expansion is scheduled to be completed by August 2012 and will bring the mill’s total capacity up to 250,000 tons. Evraz is already the number one producer of small and large diameter pipe in Canada, and this new capacity in Portland will help ensure that Evraz customers in the energy sector have a steady supply of high-quality API pipe.

One of my biggest priorities is ensuring that we are living up to our customers’ standards and delivering on our promise of quality. To quickly react to and anticipate our customers’ needs, Evraz must be a lean operation.

We ‘re putting programs in place company-wide that are designed to ensure we’re manufacturing high-quality products as efficiently as possible and delivering them to you on schedule. Programs like Maintenance Optimization—which is standardizing maintenance processes across our facilities—and 6S or “SIXcess”—our approach to creating an orderly, productive, efficient and safe work environment—ultimately ensure we’re responding quickly to the varied and dynamic needs of our customers.

I appreciate the privilege of serving you and welcome your feedback.

THE PEOPLE BEHIND OUR PRODUCTS

In May, Evraz expanded its executive team with the addition of Conrad Winkler as Executive Vice President of the Long Products Group.

Conrad brings 15 years of manufacturing experience, most recently leading Booz and Company consulting group for manufacturing-intensive industries. Conrad’s interest in the steel industry began early in high school when he wrote an award-winning paper on its decline in the U.S. He’s happy to be involved in its strong recovery and evolution with Evraz.

Dave Ellis, Evraz Pueblo Melting and Casting Manager, is proud of his facility’s ability to serve specialty markets through the production of high-quality steel.

“We can make more than 300 different grades of steel at this plant and routinely produce over 50 in a month,” said Dave. “From rail to rod to pipe, we run one of the most productive steel operations in North America. That enables us to have a keen focus on what customers need and on the quality and safety of our work.”

Since 1975, when Dave confesses to camping out at the facility’s hiring office until they gave him his first job—sweeping the floor—he has worked at just about every job at the facility. Dave is passionate about his current role and enjoys working with a very capable team of 136 employees. Thanks to the hard work of Dave and his team, melt shop productivity increased 5 percent during the 1st quarter of 2011.

PERSONAL FACTS:

Want to know more about the American Revolution? Just ask Conrad. With three books about George Washington under his belt, Conrad’s newfound passion and interest in the American Revolutionary War has reached a fever pitch.

Conrad’s interests are varied: He is a nuclear submariner and a huge Buffalo Bills fan. In fact, he missed a Super Bowl while underwater, in a submarine. As a BILLiever, Conrad wishes the Bills could get an extra draft—not just one draft pick, but an entire extra draft.

INTRODUCING CONRAD WINKLER

“The steel industry is great because it combines so much capital, people and material. Anything we do to improve our operations has a dramatic impact on our customers and our cost, and we are improving it all in Pueblo.” – CONRAD WINKLER

30 YEARS OF INNOVATION

Any idea what the terms “Gleeble thermal-mechanical simulator”, “H2S corrosion lab”, “scanning electron microscope”, “robotically controlled gas metal arc welding system”, and “two-million pound tensile frame” have in common? They’re all cutting-edge technologies utilized by the Evraz Research and Development Center in Regina. This year, the R&D Center celebrates 30 years of scientific advances in metallurgy, alloy design, corrosion resistant materials and full-scale testing of line pipe and OCTG.

“Our R&D capabilities enable us to collaborate with our customers to meet their technical needs and introduce industry-leading steel products,” notes Larry Lawrence, Vice President of Tubular Sales. “A prime example is our collaboration with TransCanada that resulted in X100 line pipe.”

Other notable developments include: highest grade of steel used in major pipeline projects in North America at this time (X80 line pipe); premium casing connections with enhanced mechanical and seal properties (QB2 thermal well connections); and temper leveled plate (grade 100XF).

As the largest recycler in Colorado, Evraz Pueblo recycles more than 750,000 automobiles and pieces of farm and construction equipment each year.

5,600 tons of high-strength, low-alloy steel plate produced at our Claymont mill was used to construct a retractable roof at BC Place where the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics were held.

The Evraz Portland mill will save 716,298 kilowatts a year as a result of recent lighting upgrades at the facility. That’s enough to power the average home in Portland for 70 years.

As the undisputed pioneer of large diameter pipe in North America, Evraz has made a lot of pipe over the past 55 years – 7.8 million tons and 19,500 miles.
