WHAT'S HAPPENING IN WIRELESS(2) T-MOBILE THROTTLING DRAMAT-Mobile recently announced its

settlement terms with the FCC, agreeing

to pay $48 million due to inadequate

disclosures of its unlimited data plans.

A press release covering the settlement

stated, "The FCC's investigation found

that company policy allows it to slow

down data speeds when T-Mobile or

MetroPCS customers on so-called

'unlimited' plans exceed a monthly data

threshold," and "Company advertisements

and other disclosures may have led

unlimited data plan customers to expect

that they were buying better and faster

service than what they received."

What’s this mean for you?

Throttling is nothing new, however, not

many wireless customers were previously

aware of this practice by carriers. With the

T-Mobile settlement making news, more

customers will understand and be on the

lookout for throttling.

Since prepaid customers enjoy the freedom of not being tied to a contract, it can be

more difficult to build up a steady, reliable customer base that shops with you and only

unpredictable income or extreme fluctuations in your month over month sales.

A lot of you are looking to improve your numbers and decrease churn and we want to

help you do that. Let’s look at some ways you can reduce churn and turn some of those

one-time redeemers into regular customers.

MAKE YOUR FIRST IMPRESSION COUNTWhen a customer walks in your store for the first time, what do they experience? Make sure your store is organized and staff are properly trained on handsets and plans. By taking proactive steps to making your store and your customers’ shopping experience a pleasant one, you’ll be more likely to attract repeat customers.

GATHER CUSTOMER INFORMATIONIn some instances, all it takes is a friendly reminder to get customers to come back to your store. When a customer is checking out during their first visit, ask if you can get their phone number or email as well as permission to contact them with reminders. If they approve, add their information to your marketing list and send a reminder of their top up date.

Text or email reminders are a great way to stay front of mind with your customers. They also help your customer stay on top of their account and ensure they don’t run out of airtime and end up scrambling for a refill.
