Dear Fellow Constituents of the Council,

As many of you may already know, our September

meeting –usually the picture of busyness and

excitement – was conducted remotely thanks to the

organization of our friend Mike Brown. A successful

meeting for what it was, we were able to relay as

much information about our Council’s upcoming

seasonal schedule as we had at that time and

shared some thoughts regarding the unique

concerns of this strange new environment and how

to operate within it. Unfortunately, the short

intervening time that’s passed between Sept 8th

and

this address has not yielded any fresh information.

Therefore, we find ourselves drawing rapidly toward

a krisis in the true sense of the original Greek

meaning – a crossroads at which we must make a

decision. Individually, by club and at the Council

level, we must decide the type of ski season for

which we’d like to prepare.

I will not digress into the statistics and projections

that might otherwise go hand-in-glove with this

conversation, for I find that there is still too diverse

a breadth of opinion among our membership to

make such a discussion productive. What I will say,

however, is that Vail and Alterra have both

announced plans to carry on unusual operations this

season…but there will be operations. The websites

of independent resorts also feature similar

announcements, and organizations ranging from

travel agencies to the governments of our friends in

mountainous states have all begun to face toward

the start of ski season in earnest, with plans and

provisions to keep their patrons healthy and on the

slopes to whatever degree possible.

All of this is to say that I believe the season will

ultimately be whatever we make it, but we are not

alone as our industry partners are clearly beating

the path forward. There are some for whom the

danger, or threat of danger, may be too

great to surmount. For these friends, I

urge you to take whatever measures

make you feel safe and out of harm’s

way, even to the extent that this season

– like the last – must also be forgone in

the hopes that the next will see a return

to some normalcy. For the others

among you who cannot resist the call of

the creaking chair cables, I urge you to

take every reasonable precaution and to

by each state and each mountain, but to

open, and the Council will be operating

to advocate for our members and

provide value through events like Kids’

Day and OnSnow, as well as with

ongoing news about some of our

discount ticketing programs as more

information develops.

your planks. That’s the advice of your

president, and this parting sentiment

also – the cost of your membership and

a ski tune, should they go unused, will

be small when weighed against a lost

Bulk Ticket Update

As of today, here is bulk ticket information for the southern tier.

September, and the CSC treasurer will refund the clubs with

applicable credits. They will not offer a bulk ticket program for

this season.

STRATTON – Will refund credit on all tickets returned by the

CSC, and the treasurer will refund those clubs that have credit.

They have not finalized a ticket program for us for this season.

non-holiday, single-use, disposable, non-refundable ticket for

this season. Prices are: Killington adult - $80; youth $62. Pico

applying credit, and procedure to each CSC club’s bulk ticket rep

have received info regarding how the resorts will handle

skiers/boarders this season. Please review the requirements of

each resort as you plan your ski days.

CSC AWARENESS DAYS

As with everything else, the Council Awareness Days

program is in flux due to the ongoing pandemic.

We are in touch with the various mountain resorts to

determine their level of participation, and hope to publish the

Awareness Days on the Council website soon. So far,

Killington/Pico, Burke, Jay Peak, and Sugarbush have

committed to schedule some Awareness Days.

John Filakovsky has been in direct contact with Stratton and

Jiminy Peak but no firm commitments have been made by

either mountain as yet. He has also reached out to Berkshire

East, Bromley, Magic and Waterville Valley. John further

reports that as Mount Snow, Okemo, Sunapee and Stowe are

all now Vail Resorts they have no interest in Awareness Day

offerings for now.

We will be posting the season Awareness Days schedule as

soon as we have the full information on mountains

participating.

We are distributing the Awareness Day stickers for the

2020/2021 season, so that you can distribute them to your

club members prior to the schedule release.

ONLY THOSE CLUBS THAT HAVE:

1) SENT IN THEIR REGISTRATION FORM

AND ROSTERS

2) AND HAVE PAID THEIR 2020/2021 COUNCIL

DUES

WILL RECEIVE YOUR CLUB’S STICKER

ALLOTMENT.

We have the stickers, and they are being mailed to the clubs

that have met these 2 criteria. If your club has not already

done so, email me the mailing address and name of the

person to whom these should be sent.

As always, as your club grows during the season, additional

stickers will be available on request.

Your club president is responsible to ensure that the stickers

are not shared with anyone not assigned to them, and that

their club membership follows the rules for obtaining this

benefit.

Thanks for your cooperation!

Connecticut Ski Council

2021 OnSnow Winter Carnival

As you probably know by now, the OnSnow Carnival is scheduled

at Okemo on March 5, 6 and 7, 2021. Okemo was selected by

the clubs that voted on-line through the Survey Monkey set up

by Mike Brown (thank you, Mike!)

We are reviewing plans with Okemo. They are excited about

hosting the event, but we are working through the

requirements, events and lodging options with an eye toward

the restrictions that may be in place at that time.

We hope to have details ready for the November newsletter as

to pricing and activity schedule. If it is available earlier, we will

post information on the Council website.

2021 CSC Kids’ Day

We are in touch with Mt Southington and they have

confirmed that we will be holding the 2021 Kids-Learn-

To-Ski Day at Mt Southington, on Saturday,

January 30, 2021.

We are still hammering out details with the staff at Mt

Southington concerning times and safety procedure.

We will post the flyer with all of this information on the

Council website within the next two weeks. The flyer will

also be posted in the CSC newsletter beginning with the

November issue.

Registration will begin on December 2 and will be taken

through January 25, 2021.

I will gleefully accept volunteers to help with the event,

so let me know via email or phone if you can work with

us during the event.

CT Senior Games

Just wanted to get in touch with you about the CT

Senior Games at Ski Sundown.

Since our older group is the most susceptible to

Covid-19, the CT Ski Council has decided not to run

a CT Senior Games this winter (2020/2021).

Hopefully next year will bring change and we can

resume, but for this year, no.

Please stay healthy and safe.

CSC Racing

We will have a Monday night race league this year. Mt

Southington will be open, but things will be different. We are

not exactly sure what this new look will look like – but the

current outline follows. We want to make skiing and racing as

safe as it can possibly be. We will use AdminSports for racer

registration and lift tickets.

No exception – registration will be through them.

STEP 1: The yearly registration season waivers will be through

the Mt Southington web page – still working out details. The

yearly waiver will be required BEFORE you register for any

individual races. We have set up 2 pizza nights to keep the

groups smaller for this registration, at Mt Southington.

Pizza party, Monday Nov. 30, 6:30-8:00 PM for men

born in 1956 and prior, women, and all snowboarders

(bib #1-199)

Pizza party Monday Dec. 7, 6:30-8:00 PM for men born

1957 and after (i.e. under 64). (bib #200-399).

STEP 2: Lift ticket/race sign up – will be done every week –

from Friday (on line) up to midnight on Sunday BEFORE the

weekly race. This is required racer registration each week prior

to the race. No racer will be allowed to show up the day of a

race and run without the weekly pre-registration.

Racing, continued BIBS: The current plan is to hand out CSC bibs for the year.

Racers will be responsible to bring their bib each week first

come, first served get their bibs; however, as in the past, we

will pull a lottery number to determine who runs the courses

first. Each week will be the same bib sequence order, and

the first racer number will vary. Racers MUST turn In their

bibs at the end of the season on the last race night.

TICKETS: On-line ticket sales will eliminate money/credit

card interaction. Ticket/race prices are up slightly and at this

time are $33 ticket/race, or $18 for race with a season pass.

This includes the fee for AdminSports. Tickets will be handed

out by Mt Southington on this side of the gate under an

outside canopy, so there should be no issues entering the

area with skis. To purchase a lift ticket prior to the race day,

an on-line waiver will need to be electronically signed. This

waiver (attestation form) will require racers to say they have

complied with CT Covid-19 guidelines. The CSC will be VERY

strict conforming to the Covid guidelines. We want to keep

everybody safe!

At this time there are no scheduled Slalom or Giant Slalom

State races. Also, the CT Senior Games have been cancelled.

Rob Dexter, CSC Racing Chairperson
