• Q. Why have a Wireless Location Appliance in a Cisco WLAN infrastructure?
• A. The Cisco 2700 series Location Appliance is a device that operates within the Cisco Unified Wireless LAN Solution infrastructure. The Cisco Wireless Location Appliance is the industry’s first location solution that simultaneously tracks thousands of devices.
• Location was primarily used for tracking RFID Tags

• MSE 7.0 Context Aware Services (CAS) • CAS allows a mobility services engine to simultaneously
track thousands of mobile assets and clients by retrieving contextual information such as location, temperature, and availability from Cisco access points.
• CAS relies on two engines for processing the contextual information it receives. The Context-Aware Engine for Clients processes data received from Wi-Fi clients and the Context-Aware Engine for Tags processes data received from Wi-Fi tags; these engines can be deployed together or separately depending on the business need.
• What CHANGED ? : Updated to modern embedded SQL database to handle increase load. Added initial versions of CONNECT and ANALYTICS applications
• Why ? To keep up with customer demand

How Wi-Fi Location Is Calculated Traditionally
Access points detect mobile devices or tag signals and measure RSSI from all frames sent over Wi-Fi
Controllers send anRSSI information signal to the Cisco® MSE forlocation calculation
RF fingerprinting and triangulation, based on signal strengths, are used to calculate the device location
