JOIN US IN SAN ANTONIO
Dear Senior Living Executive,
Argentum is pleased to present the 2019 Senior Living Executive Conference & Expo in San Antonio. This year, we continue to find ways to help you connect, discover, and advance.
New to our lineup of “Deep Dive” sessions offered Monday, April 15, we’ll be celebrating and leveraging the achievements women have made, helping build senior living into the flourishing industry it is today and to lead it into the future. We’ll be convening a series of programs on this topic; the featured speaker for this event is Sarah Thomas, the NFL’s first female official.
The program also reflects Argentum’s focus on finding and developing a professional, caring workforce to care for the rapidly growing population of America’s seniors. Argentum is steadfastly committed to further professionalizing the industry to better position workers for career advancement. You’ll see these key imperatives addressed throughout the conference’s workforce development and quality improvement content.
Among the notable speakers joining us on the mainstage, Dr. Daniel Levitin, neuroscientist, musician, and author, will share his expertise on music and the brain. Kim Campbell, an advocate for eradicating Alzheimer’s disease, will share details about her husband’s courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Ann Compton, distinguished veteran of the White House press corps, will bring to light the state of the industry during the Insights from the C-Suite panels. Finally, our closing keynote “Building Highly Successful and Resilient Brands,” will be presented by Kat Cole, COO and President, North America, FOCUS Brands.
The program is sure to provide you with unique insights, actionable takeaways, and opportunities for growth.
We look forward to sharing with you in San Antonio the best of senior living!

SPEAKER SPOTLIGHT
KIM CAMPBELL
Alzheimer’s Advocate & Widow of Grammy Hall of Fame & Award-Winning Music Artist Glen Campbell
When it was first suggested that Kim Campbell seek help from a senior living community in caring for her husband, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2011, it took some time for her to be receptive to the idea. Married to legendary country musician Glen Campbell, she had already been caring for her husband at home for years with a team that included their children. She’d already gone with her husband on a farewell tour through the United States and United Kingdom, all the while having their lives and struggles
memorialized by filmmakers for the documentary Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me. But the realization set in that Alzheimer’s had taken a toll on the entire family and they all needed help.
As keynote speaker for Argentum’s 2019 Senior Living Executive Conference, Campbell will share her experiences as a caregiver, as well as how a memory care community made all the difference in her family members’ lives.
Caring for the CaregiversAlthough she was reluctant to get help, Campbell found that working with a memory care community allowed her husband to socialize with others, play and listen to music, and get the specialized care he needed—while giving the family some much-needed respite. And the message she wants other families in the same position to know is that there’s nothing wrong with getting help.
“One reason I continue to speak publicly is because I want to help families. Now that I know what it’s like to go through that, I feel for all these families going through it too,” she said. “I’m very passionate about helping remove the stigma associated with long-term care because when we became part of the memory care community, it helped my entire family.”
Since her husband passed away in 2017, Campbell’s journey has been about helping others get the help they need. She founded the Kim & Glen Campbell Foundation, an organization dedicated to raising money for Alzheimer’s research and created a blog at CareLiving.org, where she provides inspiration, community, and resources to caregivers.
To hear Kim Campbell’s extraordinary story, join us April 15-17, 2019 in San Antonio.

DR. DANIEL LEVITIN
Neuroscientist, Musician & Author
Chances are music is the soundtrack that accompanies many people’s lives. And according to award-winning neuroscientist and musician Dr. Daniel Levitin, author of “This Is Your Brain on Music: The Science of a Human Obsession,” it also has the power to remodel the brain of older adults. He will share his insight April 15 on the mainstage at the 2019 Argentum Senior Living Executive Conference in San Antonio.
“The brain can change itself and heal itself, and music is one of several ways we can do that,” he said.
How is this possible? Levitin describes the influence music has on the brain this way: “Any instrument requires muscle movement, even singing. Learning to move those muscles in precise and subtle ways, and to coordinate those movements so they happen at the right time in the right way is a great workout for the brain. it requires planning, listening to what you do and getting feedback, and updating what you’re doing in case the noise you made isn’t the noise you intended to make,” he said. “These neural feedback loops are a great exercise for the brain, and they require that you engage with your own body in ways that are constantly changing, and they also require that you engage with the outside world.”
Hearing a song can also connect people to the outside world and it can help them remember their past and get in touch with their emotions.
