Ranjit : Mum, today I learnt to make a cup of tea in school. Mum : Did you? Let me see if I have been making tea the right way. No one really taught me to make tea. How lucky you are. Ranjit : I’m not sure I can remember how to do it although it is quite simple. Let me see. Perhaps you can correct me if I’ve forgotten the order. Mum : Sure. What do you do first? Ranjit : (After/Meanwhile/First) you boil some water. 2 (Meanwhile/While/First) waiting for the water to boil, you get a cup and saucer and a teaspoon ready. You also need to have sugar, milk and a teabag. 3 (Next/First/So) you put a teabag into the cup 4 (so/and/but) wait for the water to boil. 5 (After/Next/And) the water has boiled; you pour the boiling water over the teabag in the cup. 6 (Then/So/Meanwhile) you leave it aside for a while for it to get the right colour depending on how strong you want your tea to be. If you want light tea, remove the teabag after a few seconds. You must never leave the teabag in the water for too long if you dislike strong tea. 7 (Next/So/But) if you like strong tea, you might have to leave it in the water for a little longer. 8 (Meanwhile/When/Then) give it a good jig – a good shake – to make it really strong if you like it that way. Mum : That’s right. You are smart, child. What next? Ranjit : Well, 9 (so/after/finally) you add sugar 10 (then/and/so) milk to it according to taste. Some like tea without sugar and some without milk. And your cuppa is ready. Mum : You’re a clever girl. I didn’t know my little girl had learnt to cook so fast. You are going to be of great help now, Ranjit. Ranjit : Mum, shall I make you a cuppa? Would you allow me?
