SPEAKER BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES

Fred Hepler, AFM, AACWexford FinancialPresident, Illinois Society of Professional Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers

Authentic agribusiness expertise is not found just within the walls of an office – it is developed over time from hands-on farm experience and an intuitive business sense. It is precisely this expertise that has allowed Fred Hepler, Senior Portfolio Analyst with Wexford Capital LP and President of Stampede Farms, a subsidiary company, to make sound business decisions that significantly impact the liveli-hood and prosperity of his company, individual farmers, their families and their operations. He has made agribusiness the focus of his career, beginning with his childhood on a grain and livestock farm in south-western Iowa.

Stampede Farms is a global production farming company which owns land throughout the United States. The mission of Stampede is to build the “Wal-Mart farming operation of the world.” Stampede Farms currently produces corn, soybeans, cotton, wheat, potatoes and grain sorghum. The primary focus of the company is to own “irrigated” farmland to offset risk of rainfall and utilize all the marketing tools avail-able in the industry to offset production risk.

Fred’s extensive education began at the College of Automation in Iowa, where he received his Associate of Science degree in Computer Programming/Training. Fred then attended Iowa State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business. After establishing a budding career in agribusi-ness consulting, Fred returned to school to pursue his M.B.A. at Eastern Illinois University, graduating with honors.

Prior to joining Wexford, Fred spent 21 years as the Executive Vice President at Westchester Group, Inc., a national farmland investment, sales, management and consulting firm. He speaks nationally on current and future agriculture industry issues and teaches business management and marketing courses at Eastern Illinois University.

Thomas JenningsDirectorIllinois Department of Agriculture

Thomas Jennings was named Director of Agriculture in October 2008. He had previously served as Acting Director. Jennings began his career at the Department as a grain warehouse examiner in June 1978.
