get Turkish liras If you dont have Turkish liras on you, use one of the many ATMs in the airport to withdraw some cash money. None of the transportation options mentioned below will accept credit cards, foreign currencies or big Turkish lira notes. Make sure you have some 5, 10, 20 or maximum 50 notes handy. Also, check out our Istanbul money strategy.
hotel address Make sure that you write down or print out the exact address of your hotel, together with its telephone number. Istanbul is a huge city with an uncountable amount of (small) hotels. Even locals dont know them all by heart. So, if you need help, just hand over the piece of paper. Its not unusual for taxi drivers to ask for directions at traffic lights or call the hotel. Dont worry, hell get you there.

CONGRESS 2013THINK BIGWelcome To iSTanbul
If one had but a single glance to give the world, one should gaze on Istanbul.... Alphonse de lamartine
On behalf of the ESOMAR council and team, I am delighted to welcome you to Istanbul, the cross roads between the East and West, for the 66th annual ESOMAR Congress.
Our industry is sitting at the forefront of new developments, innovations, and technologies. This is our opportunity to set a dynamic course for the future of our industry and for business and society.
THINK BIG is not just a theme, but a call for our industry to use our unique skills and talents to amplify and elevate the value of research. It is what we do now that will shape our tomorrow.
A Congress like this is only possible because of the tremendous commitment and passion for research from our many supporters in the industry. I would like to extend a sincere thank you to our programme committee, speakers, sponsors, exhibitors and media partners for helping to make Congress 2013 more than just an event, but an experience.
I look forward to connecting with you over the coming days and to gaining insight into your big ideas, big dreams and big hopes for our future.

emily Dickinson says that The brain is larger than the sky, meaning that we have the capacity of thinking big to better grasp the potential of our universe. Istanbul is a city built by big thinkers and big dreamers and has always been the destination for the most adventerous people of the world with her rich history that is a product of layers of many civilizations. It is not a mere coincidence that the esoMAr Congress, with such an inspiring theme is being held here in Istanbul.
I would like to welcome all friends, from different parts of the world, who have come to Istanbul for the 66th esoMAr Congress. I believe that this gathering, in such an inspiring city like Istanbul, will provide a wonderful opportunity to meet interesting and successful people and to share their passion for the future of our industry.
The world is at a crossroads, not only economic ally but also socially and politically and we are witnessing a new paradigm occurring in front of our eyes. The changing landscape of international business and economies, run by young innovative and independent leaders, require new concepts, new definitions and new directions.
We cannot ignore the demonstrations by hundreds of thousands of people taking place across the globe. Peoples unrest may have different dimensions in different parts of the world; say in Istanbul versus Wall street. nevertheless, there is one thing in common; no matter where they are, people on the streets come out simply to assert and change the course of things going on. This is inspiring and energising for the society and should be for us as researchers as well.
Today we live in a world that is focused on true connection; the genuine connections we all long for. A revolution in information and communication technologies which is unfolding before our eyes and changing the way we live, share, participate, love and spend money. This puts all our companies at the crossroads too, as finding new strategies for profitable but sustainable growth is now more challenging than it has ever been.
This years congress aims to bring the changing contours of the industry to the forefront. The call is not only straight forward but also urgent: We need to highlight the bolder, broader, bigger ideas and views to solve not only the research industrys but also the worlds problems. We need to emphasise the right things at the right time. We need to think big. The basis of competition and the nature of the economy have changed and we have no other option than changing with them. We need to dream big. We need to be not only big dreamers or thinkers but also doers; be dreamers who are not afraid of action.
I invite you to plug into inspiration, disruption and innovation by looking beyond our own business, our practices, our norms and redesign the future of our industry. To achieve these we need to rediscover our passion: our passion to dream big so that our dreams can reshape the future of the world. Passion begets creativity which begets innovation. Lets try it. Its illuminating. Its THInKIng BIg.

Welcome to the esomaR conGRess 2013 InIstanbul The theme for this 66th Congress of esoMAr is wonderful not only because it invites a lot of inspiring papers and speeches, but also because it is somehow unexpected (yet welcome) in the context of Market research. It is with great satisfaction and pride that we can witness the significant change in our selfimage as researchers. some of the papers clearly illustrate that we can Think Big across many facets about the future of our own profession and also our contribution to business and life in general. In my view there has never been more need for capable researchers than today. The sources for data for companies, governments and others have multiplied, which means that it is more important than ever that someone helps them to connect the dots and make sense of the data noise. The papers that form the foundation of this Congress deal with these issues and show that we are not afraid to pick up these challenges. In fact, in many cases the market research community is leading them. our objective when putting together the agenda was to deliver diversity, inspiration and provocation, because this will help to start the discussion amongst Congress participants, which is as valuable as the presentations. It is this dialogue and the connections we make from it that will hopefully encourage all of us to Think Big both in Istanbul and beyond.
