Wheelchairs for Kids

On Friday 12th October, Mr Summers and I had the privilege of accompanying Alex Bentley, Ava Burns, Vincent Concepcion and Katie Francis to Wheelchairs for Kids in Wangara. Wheelchairs for Kids is an organisation whose mission is to manufacture and distribute wheelchairs around the world for severely disabled children throughout under-resourced countries.

Over the course of the morning we worked alongside retired volunteers to assemble various parts for the wheelchairs. It was a wonderful opportunity to converse with the volunteers who enthusiastically showed appreciation for the work of our students. Our students were wonderful ambassadors for the College. They were respectful and engaging with the volunteers. I think it’s fair to say that we enjoyed our morning as much as the volunteers enjoyed hosting us at their workshop. Dressed by Vinnies Casual Dress Theme Day On Tuesday, 23rd October, we launch the 2018 Christmas Appeal, and to mark the occasion we will also be holding a Dressed by Vinnies theme for the day. Christmas is an important time in our culture and in the Church's calendar, and for most of us it is a time of joy and celebration. There are many people struggling financially to afford the basics. The St Vincent de Paul Society is a Catholic welfare Agency which engages with the poor and marginalised in our community, and our College has a wonderful reputation for providing generous hampers for struggling families and helping to spread some love at Christmas. Each Care group will be assigned an anonymous family, receiving some information about their family and will be asked to contribute something special from your family to theirs for this coming Christmas. Items include treats of small gifts and items of food and drink. In launching the Christmas Appeal, students are invited to be Dressed by Vinnies by wearing something purchased from the new Butler Vinnies store located at Units 6&7, 8 Butler Boulevard, Butler. If that isn't possible, students may wear their House shirt and make a donation of clothing to the Vinnies bin, now located on site at the College. Students need to wear appropriate clothing fitting the spirit of the day concerning modesty and sensibility. Students wearing tights or leggings are required to also wear shorts and as usual, closed footwear must be worn.

Thank you for your assistance in helping us support the St. Vincent de Paul Society's work in our area.

5-a-side Soccer Competition Eight teams have taken to the field this year, hoping to arrest the trophy from defending champions the McCormack Choppers. All teams looked impressive in their opening encounters and although the solitary girls’ team in the competition have lost their first two games, they have had a lot of fun and Tayla Anthony’s hat-trick in her second outing has put her third on the list of top goal scorers. The format of the 2018 competition is as follows. There are two groups of four teams - each team plays every other team in their group vying for the best position, in order to secure an easier quarter-final tie, with the winners of each group playing the bottom placed team in the other group. There is a significant advantage in finishing as high up in the Group as possible. The current ladders and the top goal scorers are included below: Group A
