3rd Grade Bible Life Class As of this Sunday, May 5th, our 3rd graders are in need of a Bible Life Class teacher. The class is currently small (3-8 kids) which is perfect for new teachers to get a feel for the routine before promotion when the class will increase to about 16 kids. We use The Gospel Story for Kids curriculum and you can view a short video I created as an intro to the curriculum for our teachers BY CLICKING HERE Please join me in praying that God would place an unshakeable burden for our 3rd graders on the hearts of those He would have to teach, in order that our 3rd graders might hear of the hope we have in Christ.

Summer Bible Sleuths Only one more week of AWANA in the 2012-2013 year and we’re riding a tidal wave of momentum. We’re currently gearing up for our Wednesday Night Summer Bible program, Summer Bible Sleuths, and praying you’ll help us continue to speak the truth of God’s Word into the lives of our children this summer. We’re asking each Adult Bible Life Group to volunteer to sponsor one or more Wednesday this summer by providing a snack for the children (ice cream, cookies, etc.) as well as 3-6 members of your class to serve as discussion group leaders. Look at the schedule below and reserve which week(s) your class would like to sponsor by contacting me via email [email protected] or at the church office 295-3132.

From Tim Greetings from the Worship

and Music Ministry!

The Celebration Choir will present special music on May 26 in the Early Service in

recognition of Memorial Day. We appreciate and remember the sacrifices of those who have given their all for the cause of freedom. Please note the Symphonic Band will not rehearse on May 19. In His Service, Tim

It’s Not Too Late

Our discipleship luncheon will be held this coming Sunday 5/19/2013 immediately following

the 2nd service. This luncheon and brief meeting is for everyone, whether you are currently in

a discipleship relationship or not.

I want to especially invite those who have never been discipled or mentored by another

Christian. This is your opportunity to discover the benefits of being in a discipleship

relationship. There are no obligations and believe me when I say we will not try to lay a guilt

trip on you. If you want a deeper and richer relationship with Jesus but seem to always be

struggling, then the chances are you are trying to do it alone. God never intended you to grow

on your own, He established his Church so that we would always have someone to stand beside

us and to encourage us. Jesus never sent His disciples out alone, in Mark chapter 6 and Luke

chapter 10 He sent them out two by two.

If you would like to attend, it is not too late to register, just send me an email to

[email protected] or call me at 512-913-1091. So far there has not been a need for childcare,

so if you require childcare, please notify me immediately.

Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday,

Your brother in Christ,

Jon

Administration

HI all! Thank you in advance for your help in conserving water since we are Stage 3 critical drought conditions. Thank you also in advance for your continued dedication to giving to the church so the missions and ministries of the church can continue as planned and budgeted. We will be executing the final documents this week with the county and PEC to sell a portion of the front part of our property to them for the 1626 expansion and allow PEC an easement across the front of the property.

Come to the business meeting Sunday evening to see and vote on the proposed new LED sign that will be replacing the sign that will be demolished by the county. I think you will like it! Please pray for the Space Planning Team as we work to assess the needs of our growing church and a possible new facility. May God lead us and guide us.

I am soooooo thankful for all of the faithful volunteers that I get to work with that give of their time, energy and talents to serve our Lord in the committees and various repairs and projects around the church. With their help, we are able to save a lot of money that can be funneled into the missions and ministries of our church.

May the Lord bless you richly! If there is anything that I can do for you, please let me know.

In His Service, Ken Rector Minister of Administration

From Pastor David

Below is language for proposed bylaw revisions which we will discuss again at our next Quarterly Business meeting this Sunday, and then vote on in June. Please let me know if you have any questions. The process of having an Elder Council will be challenging, as I will need to keep these men as informed as our staff currently is about church ministry needs, challenges and opportunities. But I believe God will bless our doing church the way He directed the church in the Bible. If the church approves the bylaw revisions, we would attempt to elect our first elders this fall in time to begin serving in 2014. Pastor David ARTICLE IV ........................................ CHURCH OFFICERS

The officers of this church shall be: -Elders and Pastor, who is also an Elder, Associate Pastors or Ministers (I Timothy 5:17) -Deacons, Trustees, Clerk and Treasurer Section 1. The Elders. Qualifications for elders are found in 1 Timothy 3:1-6, Titus 1:6-9, 1 Peter 5, Acts 20:28, 2 Timothy 2:24-25, 1 Thessalonians 5:14. Elders shall be elected by the church to three year terms after being recommended by the Elder Council. Elections shall be held each year in which qualified men are recommended by the Elder Council. The recommendation shall follow an interview of the candidate by the Elders. The election each year shall occur before the beginning of the year in which the term is to begin. e first year the Pastor will recommend men to be elected as Elders. Elders can serve an unlimited number of terms, but only two consecutively, after which they must rest for at least one year before being

Page 7: Congratulations to our Graduates - Clover Sitesstorage.cloversites.com/hayshillsbaptistchurch/documents/newsletter_27.pdfschool year. Will resume in late August. Regular Wednesday

elected again. Elders can step down for special reasons in the middle of their terms but will have

to be re-elected when ready to serve again. The church shall be given the opportunity to participate in a question and answer session with the men recommended to serve as Elders, before the election. Secret ballots shall be used in the election. The ballot shall list the nominees’ names and a “yes” or “no” column. Nominees receiving at least 75% “yes” votes, of the total number “yes” and “no” votes shall be elected to a three-year term as Elders. The Pastor of the church shall serve as Elder as long as he is Pastor, without terms, or election as Elder. The Elder Council shall consist of the Pastor and as many men as are serving terms as elected Elders. The Pastor shall serve as moderator of the Elder Council. The Elder Council will meet regularly to pray for members, church ministry, needs, issues and opportunities. Elders will lead the church spiritually, and teach the word. The Elder Council will make recommendations to the church as needed. It will work with our committees and teams in making these recommendations. It will report to the church the direction and state of the church. It will oversee the ministry of the church, and work with the church staff to implement ministry objectives of the church. It will recommend other men to serve as Elders following interviews of them. In coordination with the church staff, the Elders will provide leadership and oversight, much as a Pastor does in a typical Pastor-led/congregationally governed church. Elders should also assist the Pastor in pastoral care as it oversees the flock of God. The prayer and aim of Hays Hills is for our Elders to have such a stature and teaching-role in the church, that each Elder is perceived as a spiritual leader in the church, much the way a Pastor is perceived in the Pastor led/congregationally governed church. The office of Elder and the Elder Council do not substitute for, or reduce, the congregational government of this church. ”The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching.” 1 Timothy 5:17
