The National Curriculum Prep is the first compulsory year of schooling.

Strong focus on oral language, phonics (SSP), reading, writing and number skills.

Attendance is 5 days a week / full day of learning.

Extensive growth in literacy and numeracy learning and social skills

Prep is an Integral part of our whole school program -participation in specialist lessons, assemblies and all school wide events.

Prep Curriculum

• Each child has a unique learning journey. Despite being a compulsory year of schooling, some people believe Prep students “just play”. We sure have fun but look at some work students have done this year!

Your Child’s Progress in Prep

Information and data is gathered regularly throughout the term to ensure that our learning programs cater for the various needs of a range of children.

Every day in every classroom every child is “Striving for Success”

Parent teacher interviews at the completion of Term 1 and 3, and a formal report given at the completion of Terms 2 and 4.

Attendance Can not get a year’s growth without a year’s worth of

attendance.

School monitors attendance of all students

School starts at 8:45am, finishes at 2:50pm (arrival prior to 8:30am is very important, pickup wait zone in Year 1 and 2 eating area until Prep doors are open)

Text messages, phone calls and letters sent home

Extended absences need to be organised through the principal.

Booklists Booklists will be provided at the interviews

Can be ordered through online providers Wink or

Kookaburra (roughly $120 for everything) or you can

purchase the equipment yourself at local newsagents.

Children will require all the items on the booklist.

Please label all belongings and stationery except

pencils, crayons, felt pens, lead pencils.

Student Resource Scheme A Student Resource Scheme is also a requirement for

Prep. This scheme helps to keep the items on booklists to a minimum.

Cost is approximately $60 - Payment of the Student Resource Scheme early in the year ensure your child is able to participate in ALL extra curricular activities.

School UniformOur regular school uniform consists of a regular daypolo shirt (has white panels on the sides) and a sportspolo (coloured panels according to the Sports Houseyour child is in). Students also wear grey shorts or skort(girls), socks and sneakers.

Safe school and all children must wear a hat at all times whilst outside.

Our Sports Uniform is similar to the regular polo shirt but has the child’s house colour on it. Your child will be assigned a sports house once enrolment is complete.

What else will my child need?

Shoes they can take off and put on by themselves –

Velcro is great!

School bag, lunch box (which are easily opened by

child) and hat (named on the inside).

Perhaps a change of clothes in a bag for “messy play

accidents” as well as toileting.

Class Placement

Achieving balance in our class groupings is a priority.

Parents to provide background information on child’s

experiences prior to Prep including any special

learning requirements (during Interviews).

Pre-Prep Sessions provided teachers opportunity to

observe and work with some children and also to talk

to parents about their children.

2020 Term Dates

From here… Attend the enrolment interview and return all

paperwork.(children cannot commence Prep in any school without a copy of birth certificate.) Your child will receive a letter in December from their

teacher letting them know how they are excited to have them in their class for the year ahead.

Contact school office if changing address or contact details. This is really important so that the letter sent to your child in December gets to the right place.

Be positive and talk about the exciting year ahead with your child.
