    INFORMATION AND RULES PACK

  • 8/8/2019 Conflict Rulespack

    2/12

ABOUT THIS PACKThis pack contains the rules for the Conflict

Scotland 2010 Doubles Tournament. All of the

rules and conventions and White Dwarf

references are from UK publications. All

competitors should be aware that where any rules

interpretation is required, the UK standard will

be upheld, and that the Senior Referee will be

consulted for any particularly contentious issues.

All tournament material will be published or

presented in English, and unfortunately nointerpreters or translations can be provided due to

the variety of nationalities that now attend our

events. Please note that a good understanding of

both written and spoken English is advantageous

    whilst participating in this tournament.

Finally, the pack contains a provisional schedule

for the event. See you there!

IMPORTANT!Competitors are advised that from the moment of

entry into the event the decisions of Judges,

Referees and members of Games Workshop staff

regarding the fair adjudication of the tournament

rules, and all issues of health and safety, are final. No discussions will be entered into once a

    decision is taken.

This applies to rules adjudications, the scores

applied, and any issues that require the

cooperation of the competitors. Once the

tournament results are published, we cannot alter

them in any way. Any breach of or challenge to

this will be considered a Red Card offence at the

    tournament.

HOW THE TOURNAMENTWORKSThe Conflict Scotland Doubles Tournament is

played over one day each year.

You and your companion in the Conflict Scotland

Doubles Tournament will form a two-personteam. Your team will participate in a series of

games, with each game forming a round. Each

round you will play a scenario. After each round

you will play against a different opposing team.

In the first round, teams will be matched

randomly against an opposing team. After that, in

each round the two teams in 1 st and 2nd place

(based on their tournament points) will play each

other, the teams in 3rd and 4th place will play each

other, the teams in 5th and 6th place will play each

other, and so on. The only exception is that you

    cannot play the same opposing team twice;

should this happen, a referee will step in and sort

things out so that the teams face fresh opponentsof a suitable calibre. This usually means moving

you either up or down the tables to swap you

around it isnt THAT critical as to exactly

which table you're on, as long as you play a

relatively well-matched team. Please note that if

you are paired with an old adversary in the final

round you MUST play them, no swaps are

    permitted in the final round.

Once your opponents have been determined you

will be assigned a table. Each game will be

played on a 6' by 4' table. Please try to keep the

playing area clear of excess clutter. Each table

will be a pre-designed battlefield with fixed

scenery. The event organizers will provide no

other games equipment and the players must

provide all other materials. You must bring alonga copy of the latest edition of rules, as well as

copies of any material you will be using from

UK editions of any other publications, so that

your opponent can check any special rules and

characteristics that apply to your troops.

Set-up, game length and victory conditions are

described in the tournament Scenario section,

while the attached schedule shows how long each

gaming session lasts. This time includes a five

minute warm-up period. To keep on schedule,

we would appreciate it if you could play at quite

a brisk pace with no time wasting please!

Each team has a score card. Once youve finished

your game, you must fill in the card and then

hand it in to one of the gaming judges in your

section. It is important that you and your

opponents hand your result cards in at the same

time and to the same judge. This ensures fair

scoring and speeds up the next round selection.

SCHEDULE FOR THE DAYPlease note that there is no point queuing up from

7.00, in the morning (especially if its raining!) as

you wont get in any sooner and gaming starts

    when all players have entered.

Shown below is a rough schedule for the Conflict

event. We will do our best to adhere to this at all

times, but may have to vary these on the day due to

    circumstances beyond our control.

IMPORTANT! ENTRY TO THE EVENT WILL BE VIA

A STAFFED ENTRANCE. PLEASE USE THIS

ENTRANCE AND NOT OTHERS TO ENSURE YOUR

SAFETY AND SO WE KNOW YOU ARE AT THE

    EVENT AND READY TO PLAY!!

EVENT INFORMATIONTo go with this pack you should also have an entry

ticket. This ticket is your pass into the event on the

day, so the best advice anyone can give you for this

    tournament is

    PLEASE LOOK AFTER YOUR TICKET!

The ticket has several parts, and it is worth

    explaining how it all works:

Games Workshop retains the left hand part

    when you enter the building.

The remaining part(s) need you to fill in

your names as these will form your team

    identification/entry number.

Things you need to bring: Any gaming material you require to play.

    Your entry ticket.

    Two copies of your rosters.

    This rules pack.

All UK edition rulebooks, relevant gaming

magazines and books you might need. Pens and paper. Dice (including special

    ones) and templates.

    Reference sheets.

    Counters and objective makers

    (where required).

    Tape measures.

    Super glue (For emergency repairs).

Things you need to organise: Some spending money for lunch etc.

Transport to and from the event.

DOUBLING UP!As this is a Doubles Tournament, the rules of

engagement are a little more specialized than at aregular tournament. Whilst reading these rules for

Conflict Doubles, please bear in mind that each

ticket enters TWO players as a team, ready to pit

their armies against all-comers. The rules are

different from regular games, so please take the

time to try them out before the show and contact

us if you have any questions.

It is also worth noting that this tournament is

designed with a looser format in mind. That is to

say that this tournament is designed to challenge

the more competitive player and to open up a

different style of playing to all.

Please do not expect anything other than a slightly

chaotic day of fun games, played within a

    competitive framework.

RULES OF ENGAGEMENTDEFINITIONSThe following terms are used throughout this pack

    and have the following meanings:

Force is used to describe the units under one

    players control.

Army is used to describe the combined

    forces of the two players.

ARMY ROSTERWhen arriving at the tournament each team must

bring copies of both their force rosters for the

referees to refer to. These force rosters should be

presented upon entry into the venue at the

    registration desk.

You will require the second copy of your force

rosters to keep with you when you are playing. The

best of your rosters should be the one that you

keep with your miniatures do not hand it in!

For the purpose of checking each force roster we

would ask you to ensure that the copies that you

each hand in are presented as clearly as possible. It

would be especially helpful if you can indicate on

your roster which choices are which. For example,

    indicate which are troops/core/warriors etc.

The rosters must include all of the models in yourforce, their points value and the points value of any

upgrades, and must specify which models are

carrying any extra equipment or special items.

The organisers will check rosters at random

throughout the day for errors in selection. If any

mistakes are found, the results of all the games in

which the player has used the illegal list will

immediately be impacted by the Roster Penalty,

as discussed later in this pack. This will apply

even if the mistake was a totally honest one,

so please do double-check your forces list

    before the tournament!

Please put your names, team name and entry

    number on your army list.

The Warm-Up PeriodBefore battle commences there will be a five-

minute warm-up period. During this period

players must first show their opponent all the

models in their forces and their roster.

Players are allowed to ask their opponent questions

about the forces and the rules that apply to the

warriors and heroes. After inspecting the forces, all

players should discuss the terrain for the battle,

and how each feels it will affect the models in play.

They can also discuss any other rules points that

they think may come up in the battle. Finally,

shake hands with your opponents and then battlecan commence.

Deciding who wins theTournamentAfter each game you must record the result of the

game (Win, Lose or Draw), and the number of Kill

Points/Victory Points both you and your opponents

have scored. In addition a team can receive a bonus

Tournament Point for having the Best Painted

    Army at the event.

Teams will be ranked in order of Tournament

Points. If there is a tie, then teams that have scored

the same number of tournament points will be

    separated by a condition:

    Warhammer 40,000 separation condition:

In Warhammer 40,000 teams on the same number

of Tournament Points will be separated by their net

Kill Points total as defined in the Warhammer

40,000 rulebook. NOTE: As dedicated transport

vehicles are still units, they are worth 1 Kill

    Point if they are destroyed.

    Warhammer separation condition:

In Warhammer teams on the same number of

Tournament Points will be separated by their net

Victory Points total as defined in the Warhammer

    rulebook.

The Lord of the Rings separation condition:In The Lord of the Rings teams on the same

number of Tournament Points will be separated by

their net Victory Points total as defined in the The

    Lord of the Rings rulebook.

Tournament Points are awarded as follows:

    Win Game 3 points

    Solid Victory

(The Lord of the Rings only) 2 points

    Draw Game 1 point

    Lose Game 0 points

    Best Army Winner 1 point

    Tie-Breaker Net Victory

    Points/Kill

    Points score

Note: A Win result is obtained through achieving

a Minor Victory or better in your games.

Awards CeremonyThe awards ceremony will take place as soon as

possible after the conclusion of the final game. We

urge players to stay for the awards ceremony if

they possibly can, so that they can cheer the

winners and commiserate with the losers!

At least two awards will be handed out at the endof the tournament. These are the Best Generals

trophy for the team that scored the most points (if

there is a tie, then teams that have scored the same

number of tournament points will be separated by

their net Kill Points/Victory Points total), and the

Best Army award for the team that received the

most votes for having the Best Painted Army.

In addition, other awards may be awarded at the

discretion of the tournament organizers. The most

notable of these will be the Most Sporting

Opponent Award, which is a discretionary title

bestowed by the Referees on the team they

consider to have demonstrated sportsmanshipabove and beyond the generally high expectations

of all tournament-goers; please be aware, however,

that not every tournament will reveal someone

worthy of this high accolade and it will not be

    awarded lightly!

WARHAMMER 40,000 ARMIESPlayers will enter the tournament with two forces

allied together for the event. (Please see the Team

    Alliances below.)

Selecting an armyThe force you use must be selected from those

listed opposite. Only options listed in the Codex

may be used, additional material from White

Dwarf, Forge World, the Games Workshop website

etc may not be. If you have any doubts then please

contact your local Games Workshop store for

clarification as it is your responsibility to ensure

you are using a valid army. If an option isnt listed

here it is because it cannot be used so please dont

assume it is just an oversight. In all cases use themost up to date Codex available. Remember that

you will be penalised if your list is in error so

    please check them very carefully.

Team AlliancesEach army may ally with only the armies shown on

the Alliances chart below. Simply cross-reference

the races you wish to ally with. You may only

select to play with a team-mate who has an army

that you are permitted to ally with.

    Space Marines Space Marine armies

can be selected from any of the following

lists: Codex: Space Marines, Codex: Space

    Wolves, Codex: Blood Angels, Codex:

    Dark Angels, Codex: Black Templars

You may use a Chapter of your own

creation based on one of the variant

Codexes, so for example you could base

your Chapter on Codex: Blood Angels but

use your own colour scheme. If you

choose to do this it is up to you to make

sure your opponents are not misled in any

way. Be aware that clarifications have

been issued explaining how to use the

variant Space Marine lists in conjunction

    with Codex: Space Marines. These

can be downloaded from the Games

    Workshop website.

    Imperial Guard Use Codex: Imperial

Guard. Doctrines may be used, if using a

Regiment with doctrines defined in the

Codex then those doctrines must be used

    if any are.

    Eldar Use Codex: Eldar.

Dark Eldar Use Codex: Dark Eldar.

This Codex was reprinted with significant

changes. Look for the version with the

Second Edition stamp on the cover.

    Orks Use Codex: Orks

    Tau Use Codex: Tau Empire.

    Necrons Use Codex: Necrons.

    Chaos Space Marines Use Codex:

    Chaos Space Marines

    Chaos Daemons Use Codex: Chaos

    Daemons

    The Inquisition Use Codex:

    Daemonhunters or Codex: Witch Hunters.

    Allied contingents from these Codexes

may be used in Space Marine, Imperial

    Guard or other Inquisitorial armies

subject to any restrictions in those lists.

    Tyranids Use Codex: Tyranids.

B = Battle Brothers same race, so no problems.

X = Disallowed cannot ally under any circumstances.

T = Trusted Allies no social rules, alliance is permitted.

D = Distrustful Allies permitted, but allied units and characters within 6'' of each other suffer a -1 Leadership penalty (after other modifiers).

Each player on the team rolls a die, with theiropponents witnessing the roll re-roll any ties.

The highest rolling player will lead the army in this

battle. They are the Command HQ player. The

Command HQ player will determine the sequence in

which the combined armies units move and fight.

    SCENARIOSRound 1: Seize Ground

Use the scenario on page 91 of the

    Warhammer 40,000 rulebook with pitched

battle deployment as your deployment type.

    Round 2: Capture & Control

Use the scenario on page 91 of the

    Warhammer 40,000 rulebook with Spearhead

    deployment as your deployment type.

    Round 3: Annihilation

Use the scenario on page 91 of the

Warhammer 40,000 rulebook with Dawn of

War deployment as your deployment type.

Units with Distinct Elementsand Kill PointsSome units consist of parts that deploy and operate

separately, such as a squad of Space Marines and

their Rhino transport vehicle, a Brood of Lictors or

an Imperial Guard Infantry Platoon. Treat each

element separately for Kill Points purposes. The

same approach is taken when an independent

character has a Command squad or retinue. Each

element is a separate unit and thus is worth a Kill

    Point when destroyed.

Using models fromThe Lord of the RingsPlease note that at this time, due to the

nature of our licenses, Warhammer 40,000

armies that feature models or model

components from our The Lord of the Rings

ranges cannot be nominated for the Best

Army Award. If any of the other awards are

won using an army containing models from

The Lord of the Rings ranges, the army

    unfortunately cannot be photographed or

featured on the Web or in any Games

    Workshop publication.

If you have any doubts please contact

your local Games Workshop store for

clarification it is your responsibility to

ensure you are using a valid force!

Army LimitationsEach player is paired with their team mate, and each will bring a force of no more than 500pts. The teams army therefore will total no more than 1000pts

combined. The 1000pts army must also conform to the standard force organization chart.

    Additionally:

Both forces must include at least one troops choice (thereby filling the minimum two troops choices for the army). If the forces are Battle Brothers

this rule does not apply and one force can contain the minimum two troops selections. Only one force need satisfy the minimum need for a single

HQ choice for the army whether or not they are Battle Brothers.

An army cannot include a second Elite, Fast Attack or Heavy Support choice until it includes one of each of these unit types. i.e. in this Warhammer40,000 Doubles Tournament an army of 1000pts must contain one Elite, one Fast Attack and one Heavy Support choice before you can include a

second Elite, Fast Attack or Heavy Support.

The same applies for a third Elite, Fast Attack or Heavy Support choice, the 1000pts army must contain two Fast Attack, two Elite and two Heavy

Support before a third Elite, Fast Attack or Heavy Support choice can be included.

All models must be PAINTED Citadel miniatures of the appropriate type for the troops they represent.

Minimum painting standards are three colours on each model in an appropriate scheme. Models should also be appropriately based. Suffice to say

that an undercoat is not enough!

You may use converted Citadel miniatures to represent troop types that are not yet available.

Non-Citadel miniatures are not permitted in the tournament and will be removed in the same way as unpainted miniatures.

Conversions must begin as Citadel miniatures and contain a majority of Citadel Components. If you are in any doubt about the validity of your

conversion please contact your local Games Workshop store.

Team PlayTaken together, the competitors armies should

total no more than 1,500 points, including two

Heroes capable of acting as Generals.

Before each battle the General must be decided

    using the following rules:

Each player on the team rolls a die, with

the opponents witnessing the roll re-roll

    any ties.

The highest rolling player will lead the army

in this battle. Their Hero acts as the

    General.

Both forces will react to the General as per

    the Warhammer rules.

Note: Special Rules that are normally conferred

by a general on to their army will only apply if he

is selected as the general for the game. This

however does not apply to army special rules,

only those specifically conferred by a general.

Such rules are found within the relevant army

    book.

Army LimitationsEach player selects a 750pts Force. You may not spend more than 750pts, although you may spend fewer points. Your army is made up from two forces,

which are chosen using the rules below. The teams army therefore will total no more than 1,500pts combined.

    Additionally:

Each force must have at least one Hero capable of leading it as General. Each force must have at least one Core unit.

The army must conform to the normal selection criteria for a 1,500 point army, which is as follows: 1-3 Heroes, 2+ Core, 0-3 Special, 0-1 Rare. No

    Lords may be selected.

If a race-specific selection criterion exists in your Army List then the force must satisfy it; for example, a Bretonnian force must take a Battle

Standard Bearer and another Hero to be the General.

If the two forces are Battle Brothers, the criteria need only be satisfied once for the entire army. For example, two Bretonnian forces need only

provide one Battle Standard Bearer in the army.

Within the army each individual Magic Item or Magic Banner may only be selected once.

Conversions must begin as Citadel miniatures and contain a majority of Citadel Components. If you are in any doubt about the validity of yourconversion please contact your local Games Workshop store.

Using models fromThe Lord of the RingsPlease note that at this time, due to the

nature of our licenses, Warhammer armies

that feature models or model components

from our The Lord of the Rings ranges

cannot be nominated for the Best Army

Award. If any of the other awards are won

using an army containing models from The

Lord of the Rings ranges, the army

    unfortunately cannot be photographed or

featured on the Web or in any Games

    Workshop publication.

If you have any doubts please contact your

    local Games Workshop store for

clarification it is your responsibility to

ensure you are using a valid force!

SCENARIOSEach game will use the Pitched Battle scenario

from the main rulebook for the purposes of

deployment and working out who goes first.

Victory is determined using the standard Victory

Points chart in the Warhammer rulebook. Each

scenario includes bonus victory points detailed

    below.

    Scenario 1:Battlefield Supremacy

In battlefield supremacy each table quarter is

worth 200 victory points instead of the usual

    100.

    Scenario 2: Seize and Hold

During deployment mark the centre of the

table with an objective marker. At the end of

the game a unit within 3" of the marker may

claim the objective if it is a scoring unit.

Scoring units must have at least US5, are not

single models, monsters and handlers, fliers

or raised/summoned units. If both players

have scoring units claiming the objective

then the player with the single unit with the

highest unit strength will claim the objective.

This objective is worth 500 victory points.

    Scenario 3: Assassinate

In assassinate killing the enemy general is

worth a bonus 500 victory points instead of

    the usual 100.

    IMPORTANT!

We require that all people attending the event be in

possession of English Language translations of the

Core Rulebook and the appropriate supplement

books. This should help resolve any rules queries

more quickly and efficiently, ensuring minimal

    disruption to the games.

One member of each team must be at least 14 to

enter this event. If one team member is under 12

then the other must be at least 18.

Selecting an armyPlayers will enter the tournament with two forces

allied together for the event. The forces you use

must be selected from the Legions in Middle-earth

book or any sourcebooks released since that time.

Only those options listed in these books may be

used, additional material from White Dwarf, the

Games Workshop website etc... may not be. If you

have any doubts then please contact your local

Games Workshop store for clarification as it is

your responsibility to ensure you are using a valid

army. If an option isnt listed here it is because it

cannot be used, so please dont assume it is just an

    oversight.

Remember that you will be penalised if your list is

in error so please check them very carefully.

Team PlayBefore each battle the General must be decided

    using the following rules:

Each player on the team rolls a die, with

their opponents witnessing the roll re-roll

    any ties.

The highest rolling player will lead the army

in this battle. They are the General.

The General will determine the sequence in

which the armies units move and fight.

Army LimitationsEach team will need two 300pts Forces (either both Good or both Evil) selected as normal from the Legions of Middle-earth book making up one 600pts

Army. Army selection is slightly different from normal to take into account that this is a doubles tournament.

The model limit is worked out across the whole 600pts Army (i.e. 3 -75).

If a models points value in its sourcebook is different from that in Legions, the sourcebook takes precedence.

The Bow Limit is worked out per 300pts Force (33% of the Warriors; Grey Company are the exception as described in Legions)

Number of War Machines is worked out per 600pts Army (0-3).

As per the Legions book each Force must contain a hero.

Break point is across the whole Army and any Heros Stand Fast can affect warriors from both Forces.

Both Forces must be able to able to ally with each other.

No duplicating of Named Heroes across the Army (including spider queens, white wizards etc)

No player may take, Gollum, Tom Bombadil, or a model with the One Ring.

As, in this tournament, Good armies may have to battle Good, and Evil battle Evil, some additional clarification is needed for some minor rules. If youhave any queries regarding other rules, dont hesitate to contact the event organisers prior to the event, as rules queries on the day will be dealt with by a

referee whose decision is final, whether you like it or not!

Abilities that reduce enemy courage, fight value etc... within a certain distance work on enemy models. This includes abilities like the Harbinger of Evil,

Moria Drums, Shades, Banners, Mahud Kings affects on Mahud Warriors, Malbeths Foresight etc

In games where two Good armies are against each other, neither can shoot into combat. The opposite is true of two Evil armies as both can shoot into

combat. It may occur that two named heroes face each other. This is fine, may the best general triumph!

To avoid confusion, all distances will be in given in inches and all games will be played in inches, not centimetres.

Using models fromThe Lord of the RingsPlease note that at this time, due to the

nature of our licenses, The Lord of the

Rings armies that feature models or model

components from our other ranges cannot

be nominated for the Best Army Award. If

any of the other awards are won using an

army containing models from a mixture of

ranges, the army unfortunately cannot bephotographed or featured on the Web or in

    any Games Workshop publication.

If you have any doubts please contact

your local Games Workshop store for

clarification it is your responsibility to

ensure you are using a valid force!

SCENARIOSAll games will be played on a 4'x4' table.

The games are slightly different from usual

Legions scenarios. This represent the fact this is a

doubles tournament, we want to encourage players

to use two complimentary armies that are still

capable of acting independently, as opposed to one

all conquering force of doom. This should result in

games that are different from a standard game,

    while still challenging and enjoyable

    Scenario 1: Contested Ground

This land is the property of your King. These foul

intruders claims of lordship over these lands are

just lies and deceit! Drive them from this place

give them a taste of cold steel.

Both armies are trying to inflict heavy casualties

while holding the middle of the board.

The board is divided into four quarters, 24" square.

Both teams roll a dice, the team scoring highest

picks any two quarters and sets up one army in

each quarter, anywhere more than 15" from the

dead centre of the board. The opposing team then

does the same with the remaining two quarters but

cannot set up within 12" of an enemy model.

Objectives Once an army is broken the game

ends on a dice roll of 1 or 2 (the side thats broken

rolls at the beginning of each turn, if both sides are

broken both roll and if either roll is 1 or 2 the

game ends). One VP is awarded for every model

with its base totally within 3 of the centre of the

board. The player with the most VPs wins the

    game.

Major Victory You have the most Victory Points

and your army is not broken.

Solid Victory You have the most Victory Points

    and your army is broken.

Draw Both teams have equal victory points.

    Scenario 2: Escalation

A border skirmish turns into all out war as

reinforcements rush from all sides to join the

    slaughter!

Both teams roll a dice and the one that score

highest picks one of the 4 board edges and sets up

one 300pts force between 12" and 18" from it. The

opposing team then does the same with the

opposite board edge. On the first turn the side with

Priority moves their second army on from one of

the remaining two board edges. The opposing team

does the same on the last remaining edge in their

own movement phase. Models moving on in this

way cannot charge in the turn they turn up but may

    move and shoot as normal.

Objective The enemy must be crushed utterly.

The first team to reduce the enemy to below aquarter of their starting models wins.

Major Victory The enemy is below a quarter

strength and your army is not broken.

Solid Victory The enemy is below a quarter

strength and your army is broken.

Draw Both teams reduced to a quarter strength

in the same turn, or game finished without one side

being reduced to below a quarter strength.

Scenario 3: The Death of Kings

If you remove the head the serpent will die On

both sides morale is low after a long campaign, the

loss of the enemy commanders could win you this

war but it must be done with a resounding victory,

not daggers in the night. Your men must see you as

the hero you are, in the thick of the fighting,

turning the tide with acts of valour and heroism.

Both sides roll a dice, the team that scores highest

sets up each of their armies within 18" of a table

corner. The opposing team does the same with the

    remaining two corners.

Objectives Once a force is broken the game ends

on a dice roll of 1 or 2 (the side thats broken rolls

at the beginning of each turn, if both sides are

broken both roll, and if either roll is 1 or 2 the

game ends). 1 VP is awarded for each hero in the

enemy force your side has slain. A further 1 VP is

awarded for each of your own heroes within 6" of

an enemy model when the game ends.

Major Victory You have the most Victory Pointsand your army is not broken.

Solid Victory You have the most Victory Points

    and your army is broken.

Draw Both teams have equal Victory Points.

THE COUNTS AS RULEAn important principle in the Conflict Tournament

rules is what you see is what you get or

    WYSIWYG (pronounced wizzywig) for short.

All this means is that unless you are using the

counts as rule (see below), then the miniatures

used are assumed to have the weapons andequipment actually shown on the model.

Most of the time you should use the WYSIWYG

rule above during your games. However, you may

if you wish decide that certain models in your

force count as something else from the army lists

of roughly the same size and function. This is

especially useful if you are using old models that

are no longer in the range and therefore not

covered in the army lists, but it can also be used

so that converted models may be included in

    your force.

For example, you might have managed to lay your

hands on an old Citadel miniature that we made

many years ago but are now no longer in the range.Rather than leaving these models languishing on

the shelf you could simply decide that they count

as something else from the army list, which is

roughly the same size as the old model and has a

    similar function.

If you decide to use the counts as rule, then there

are three very important things to keep in mind:

Before the tournament begins you must

approach a Referee and notify them of your

decision to use the counts as rule, and you

must let them know what counts as what.

The Referee may, at their discretion, disallow

any counts as choice if they feel it is

    inappropriate or confusing.

Before each game starts you must tell your

opponent that you have decided to use the

counts as rule, and you must let him know

    what counts as what.

If a model in your force counts as something

else, then all of that type of model in your

army must count as being the same thing.

You may not say this model counts as troop

type A while this exact same model counts

as troop type B, for example.

The counts as rule is included to allow you

to use all the models in your collection, not

as a method of fine-tuning your army for

every game that you play. Therefore you may

not use the counts as rule for models thatare included in the army list you are using. If

the model is included in the army lists, then

    the WYSIWYG rule takes precedence.

    SPORTSMANSHIPRemember that Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer

and The Lord of the Rings are games, a hobby and

    a pleasure.

Please help to make it a fun weekend for everyone!

Our tournaments are not meant to be cut-throat,

win-at-all costs competitions, and because of this

we expect and require participants to compete in

an especially friendly manner. Please keep in mind

that things which your regular opponents find

acceptable may cause offence to a stranger, so

please be on your very best behaviour, and try to

go out of your way to make the game as enjoyable

an experience as possible for your opponent.

Please note that there is absolutely nothing wrong

with asking an opponent if they can show you the

appropriate rule or set of characteristics so that you

can check for yourself that everything is being

done correctly. All we require is that you ask

nicely and politely, and that you do your best to

    sort out any problems yourselves!

    Difficult Opponents

If you felt that your opponents acted in anunsporting manner, you may let a Referee know

about it after the game by talking to them. In future

rounds a Referee will keep an eye on any

participants who have been identified as difficult

opponents, passing by their tables every now and

then to keep an eye on things and ensure that such

    behaviour does not continue.

PenaltiesAs the purpose of this event is that people have fun

playing their favourite game, acting in an

unsporting or unfriendly way will be frowned

upon. If the tournament Referees become aware of

anyone acting in this way then they will be asked

to play in an appropriate manner, and if they dont

they will be penalised. Inappropriate behaviour

includes asking picky rules questions, consistentlybreaking or bending the rules in your favour, or

acting in an annoying or aggressive manner.

Players that have been asked to play in a sporting

manner and who fail to do so will be penalised

through a simple Yellow and Red Card system,

    as follows:

YELLOW CARDInitially, for the most common offences, the

Referee will show the offending player(s) a Yellow

Card and deduct one point from their Tournament

    Points score.

A second Yellow Card infringement will result in

the Referee showing a Red Card.

    Here are some examples of Yellow Card offences;

this list is by no means exhaustive but provided to

give you a clear guide to our Referees

    expectations:

Argument between players that is obviously

    disrupting the game and/or event.

Use of one or more unpainted miniatures in

    the army.

Use of one or more non WYSIWYG /

authorised counts as model in the army.

Use of non-standard dice, measures or othergaming tools; includes the use of non-UK

edition of the rules / army lists.

Discussing the ongoing game with a

    non-playing bystander.

Excessive time-wasting, such as taking more

than 15 mins to resolve your game turn.

Use of offensive language, gestures or other

    inappropriate behaviours.

    APPENDICES

    11/1211

RED CARDPlayers who either continue to offend or who

commit the most serious offences will be shown a

Red Card by a Referee. A Red Card will cause the

loss of the game being played (or a drawn game if

both players are at fault). Any further offence,

whether a Yellow or Red Card issue, will lead to a

player who has been previously shown a Red Card

to be excluded from the tournament.

Here are some examples of Red Card offences; thislist is by no means exhaustive but provided to give

you a clear guide to our Referee's expectations:

Argument with a Referee or the tournament

    organisers

    Cheating in a game

Receipt of a second Yellow Card for an

    offence

EXCLUSIONPlayers that argue with a Referee, continue to

offend after being shown a Red Card, or who act in

an especially unpleasant or violent manner will be

asked to leave the tournament and not return. Thedecision of the Referee is final, and no discussion

will be entered into. No refunds will be issued to

    players who are excluded.

    Here are some examples of Exclusion offences;

this list is by no means exhaustive but provided to

give you a clear guide to our Referee's

    expectations:

Receiving a second Red Card for an offence

Persistent argument with a Referee or the

    tournament organisers

Any act of violence, extreme and unseemly

    behaviour, or extremely inappropriate

    language

Failure to correct an illegal army roster

ROSTER PENALTYPlaying a tournament game with an illegally

constructed army is something that can never be

tolerated, even if the mistake is a totally honest

one. To keep things simple and to demonstrate the

seriousness of this issue the following Roster

Penalty will be applied should a player or Referee

detect an illegal army roster. If you detect an error

in your opponent's army roster you must report the

matter to a Referee immediately it is everyone's

responsibility to make sure that the tournament is

    fair!

Player rosters will be checked during the course of

the tournament by a Referee. If an error is detected

in an army roster a penalty of 1 Tournament Point

will be applied to that players score for each game

the army has been played with, inclusive of thecurrent game. The Referees will discuss the

changes that are needed to correct the roster with

the player concerned. Failure to comply with the

Referees decision will lead to Exclusion.

REFEREES & ADJUDICATING THERULESSometimes at the tournament you will seek to

resolve a rules question. The most common causes

of friction in a game are questions about the rules

of the game. Rules questions arise in most games.

This can be because the huge number of variables

involved in the game make it just about impossible

for the rulebook to cover every situation that might

occur, or because different people interpret the

    rules in different ways.

For a quick resolution, and in order to avoid

arguments, we recommend that you refer to the

appropriate rulebook as soon as a question arises.

If the rules do not cover the situation, then roll a

dice to decide what happens. In other words, afriendly dice roll should decide any question that

cannot be answered by referring to the rules.

If you want a Referee to resolve a rules question,

then you are free to call one over, and our Referees

may intervene if they see an argument. You should

also note that the prime duty of our Referees is to

make sure that the majority of players in the

tournament get a nice friendly game where

winning is secondary to having a good time.

If you ask for a rules clarification the following

    process will occur:

They will show you the rule in its relevant

place in the rulebook, Codex, Army Book,

    Sourcebook or Official Rules FAQ.

If the above is not clear, they will refer to the

Chief Referees Decisions Book. This is a

reference work which contains the previous

decisions of Referees at UK Tournaments; itforms our own body of precedent for

    adjudicating this event.

If this does not resolve the matter, the Chief

Referee will make a decision. This decision

is final and will be recorded in the Chief

    Referees Decisions Book.

The decision of the Referee is final, and no

    discussion will be entered into.

    BEST ARMY, THE CHAMPIONSHIP

    AND USING 'BOUGHT' ARMIES

At every tournament we give out an award for the

Best Army. This is awarded to the army that, in the

opinion of a panel of judges, is the best in terms of

painting and character. We do this because our

hobby is not just about playing games, but also

    collecting and painting armies.

Its not uncommon now for players to use armies

that include miniatures that they havent painted

themselves. There isn't a problem with this.

However, we do want to make sure that the Best

Army award goes to the team of players who

painted their entire army themselves. For this

reason you'll be asked to indicate on the form that

comes with this pack whether you painted your

forces yourself, or if you got someone else to do it

    for you.

The way in which we have decided to address this

is to instruct the Judges that they may not select

the team's forces for Best Army voting if a player

has declared that they did not personally paint their

entire forces. This means that we can issue the

accolade to the people who actually painted their

forces. We ask all of the contestants to remain

    honest in their declaration.
