Page 2 2 CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

The Children’s Ministry is gearing up for this Easter Season. Our children are learning about Lent, Passover, Palm Sunday, and the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. They have a calendar that they are asked to follow every day during this season of Lent. Please make a special effort to talk with them about the jour-ney they have been asked to take to get to know Jesus better. As our ministry for this month we are asking the children to bring in a pair of new adult size socks to help a ministry called “Bless My Sole” in Richmond, Vir-ginia. This ministry will distribute the socks to those that are homeless. We are also in need of CANDY!!! We have over 3000 Easter eggs that are ready and waiting to be filled for our Easter Egg Hunt Scheduled for Saturday, April 7, at 2:00 p.m. If you would like to volunteer to help with the Easter Egg Hunt, please let me know. We are in need of a teacher for our 3rd/4th grade Sunday school class in April. Our lessons are pre-planned and easy to follow and teach. Please let me know if you would like to help out by calling the church office or contacting me direct at 479-903-5259. Thanks for all you do for Goddard’s Kids.

Blessings, Kim Friery

Community Rescue Mission Brian Hilts, our director, is seeking volunteers to organize our new clothes trailer which houses all the donations received. All the clothing and supplies received are from donations and our Mission gives to those in need; the Mission does not sell anything. If you are interested in volunteering, you or your group could contact Brian at the Mission 782-1443 or me at my number below. Our Mission continues to provide for an increasing need for the homeless population in our area. Here are some statistics for service in February:

4,624 total meals served 64 people were helped with a total of 2,079 nights of stay provided 7 people found employment (this is very hard in our current economy)

Thanking you in advance for your blessings through your prayer, donations and support.

FROM OUR PASTOR……. “He was praying in a certain place, and after he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray,…” Luke 11:1 Last month I wrote concerning the need to find a place and time to pray, that is, to find a place away from the TV and other distractions of life so that we can speak and listen carefully to God. What I didn’t write about is what we do once we’ve found our place and time. The disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray. There are many, many ways that we may pray, and each of us in exploring prayer, will probably find methods that are more meaningful to us. I want to discuss some of these different methods over the next few months with the intention of helping each of us find our own style of prayer that is meaning to us. In Luke 11 Jesus responded to one of the disciples request by sharing a model prayer: “Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone indebted to us. And do not bring us to the time of trial.” Luke 11:2-4 Of course, we recognize this as a shortened version of the Lord’s Prayer that is found in Matthew 6. In Mat-thew there is no request from one of the disciples, but none-the-less Matthew does present the prayer as in-struction from Jesus, “Pray then in this way:” So, we do have a model to follow, and one way to pray is to simply, carefully pray this prayer when we are in our quiet time and place. We can take the opportunity to pray this prayer one line at a time, reflecting on the meaning and relevance for our current circumstances of life. For example, what does it mean to you to pray “Our Father in heaven”? Where do you need to surrender to “thy will be done”? What specific trespasses from the past 24 hours of your life need to forgiven, need to be reconciled? What “daily bread”, or what do you need for this day? What are the needs of those you care for? I believe that if we begin to pray this prayer carefully we will find it leads us into a much deeper rela-tionship with Christ.
