Season 2 / Issue 18

Barnet’s lead at the top of the Vanarama Conference table was cut to seven points after Woking’s 2-0 victory over Altrincham on Tuesday night.

Martin Allen’s Bees triumphed last weekend against play-off contenders Macclesfield, coming back from a goal down to win 3-1 at The Hive – John Akinde taking his tally to 15 for the season with the equaliser.

Bottom-markers AFC Telford United shared a 1-1 draw with Grimsby Town last Saturday but suffered a 2-0 defeat at Chester 72 hours later and are currently an alarming 9 points adrift of the safety mark with the crucial Christmas fixtures looming large on the horizon.

Woking’s win at Kingfield against Alty on Tuesday made it back-to-back wins for Garry Hill’s men and they possess a game in hand on Barnet.

Whilst several Vanarama Conference clubs are involved in FA Cup action this coming weekend, the Cards face a crucial league game at the Moss Rose against fifth-placed Macclesfield.

Torquay United against Barnet and the relegation ‘six-pointer’ between Nuneaton Town and Alfreton Town are two other

standout league fixtures. The league is assured of at least one

representative in the big FA Cup Third Round draw when the Barclays Premier League giants enter the fray as Southport entertain Eastleigh at the Merseyrail Community Stadium.

AFC Telford will be hoping to cause on of the upsets of the round when they travel to League One high-flyers Bristol City, while an unkind Second Round draw also takes Chester to Barnsley, Dartford to Bradford City and Dover Athletic to Cheltenham.

One team from the Vanarama Conference tipped to cause a surprise is Aldershot Town, who host League One Rochdale at the Electrical Services Stadium.

Woking cut Bees’ lead down to seven
