September 29 - 30, 2010 Hilton Garden Inn, Fargo, NDPURPOSE:This symposium has been designed to provide healthcare professionals the most up-to-date information in the treatment of the trauma patient.

TARGET AUDIENCE:Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses and other interested healthcare professionals.

OBJECTIVES:• Properly recognize, physically handle, retain and forward physical evidence in firearm deaths.• Discuss current practice standards of care for early and immediate vascular access.• Understand the classifications, evaluation and stabilization of pelvic fractures.• Understand the treatment of severe animal maulings with massive soft tissue loss.• Name the most common complications experienced by Haiti earthquake survivors.• Define high and low voltage injuries, common injury patterns, short and long term risks and treatments of these injuries.• Review the evaluation for brusing in child maltreatment.• Discuss lessons learned from EMS response to 2009-2010 floods.• Describe emergent care of patients with maxillofacial injuries.• Identify treatment considerations of patients injured while boating.• Identify the unique characteristics of the child trauma patient.

CONTINUING EDUCATION HOURS: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the North Dakota Medical Association through the joint sponsorship of Trinity Hospital and the ND Trauma Foundation. Trinity Hospital is accredited by the North Dakota Medical Association to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians.
