What is Together We Can?

Together We Can is an annual multi-disciplinary conference that focuses on children who have experienced abuse or neglect. The children may be in foster care, residential care, kinship care or have been reunited with their birth family. We provide many educational opportunities for professionals featuring both national and local experts. The TWC conference is geared toward social workers, attorneys, judges and court staff, CASA volunteers and staff, children’s advocacy centers, law enforcement, educators and child welfare stakeholders—all working to make a difference in the lives of Louisiana’s abused and neglected children.

The Together We Can conference offers in-depth learning opportunities which address policy and practice concerns. There will be keynote addresses focused on the latest trends and institute sessions allowing more intensive attention to the selected topics. An awards evening will be held on Thursday to honor those who have demonstrated commitment above and beyond on behalf of children.

There are several organizations which have chosen to collaborate to create this annual event. In 2002 it was determined that there were several similar events being held with similar speakers and often the same audiences. Their efforts and funds were pooled to create the larger single event which now averages 650 or more people attending.

Virtual Conference at a GlanceGoing Virtual in 2020

After much discussion, we have decided to go VIRTUAL in 2020. The conference will take place within an online platform where attendees will engage with each other as well as speakers and sponsors.

You will use the online platform to see the daily or event agenda, review who will be speaking and the topics, connect to exhibitors and sponsors, as well as network with other attendees. The entire conference will be virtual this year! We do plan to mail Conference SWAG packages to all who register by October 16th.

We look forward to seeing you online on November 4-6, 2020!

About the AwardIn 2007, the legal and social work fields lost two people who were incredibly strong advocates for children. We have chosen to honor Catherine Lafleur and Linda Christmas with awards within their areas of service each year. Both embodied the love, the passion and determination needed to be a very special advocate for children.
