Unconventional Tip #1

Choose the sessions you know the least about.

It doesn’t make sense to go to a session where YOU’LL be the most knowledgeable person (next to the speaker)!

You won’t be bored….

And you won’t be disgusted with the presenter

Page 21: Conference 101 2014

Unconventional Tip #2

Instead of just listening for good ideas…

Listen for things you can quote in your next grant proposal or monthly report!

Someone said something stupid? Use it.

Someone said something obvious or great? Use it!

Page 22: Conference 101 2014

Unconventional Tip #4

Fail-proof way to meet someone:

Get to a session early!

Sit near someone and say: “Would you mind if I introduced myself?”

Page 23: Conference 101 2014

Unconventional Tip #5

If you’re bored or irritated by a session, walk out.

Use your time wisely

Don’t waste an hour when you could be learning something new & exciting & useful!

Be honest on your evaluation form!

Page 24: Conference 101 2014

Unconventional Tip #6

Put a sign on the bulletin board.

Use available sticky notes to invite others out for a specific type of food…

Find others you have connected with online (others who are in charge of Prenatal Outreach or Youth & Adults programs) by leaving them a note!

Worst case – you miss them or no one shows up –no one will know!

Page 25: Conference 101 2014

Random Tips

Use the conference bag wisely

Your badge is great – for the conference!

Sit near the back if you’re not planning on staying

Ask lots of questions

Know when breakfast is…and be there!

Get some exercise every day
