    From the CivilWrit petition of T.N Godavarman, a pattern of project clearances granted and

    diversions allowed can be deduced.

    The matters relating to Irrigation projects1 saw imposition of similar conditions. These

    included that, before an felling of the trees is underta!en, the approval under the ".#. $ctfor the non%forest use of the forest land involved in the project to be obtained and N&' to be

    deposited of the forest land at the present rate in the #ompensator afforestation fund with in

    underta!ing that additional N&', if determined will have to be paid.

    In matters pertaining to 0droelectric power projects, the court imposes conditions 9whereb

    the felling of trees ma be !ept to a restricted number and must ta!e place upon permission

    obtained under the provisions of the "#$.

    "or dam construction and repair projects, the #ourt has in most of the cases allowed the same

    on the fulfilment of conditions laid down b the #>#;. These include deposition of 9@ of the

    estimated project cost and the strict compliance of 8ther conditions on which the 2tanding

    #ommittee of the N4W5 has cleared the proposal will be strictl complied with.

    It ma also be noted that, in all the matters wherein directl or indirectl the #ourtAs decision

    affects the wildlife, the #ourt as!s for advisor recommendations from the standing

    committee of N4W5:.

    In case of renewal of mining lease, the court sought the fulfilment of the following
