No migratory (terrestrial) species were recorded within the study areas as a result of fieldsurvey and scouting activities. However, the study areas provide habitat resources for a rangeof other migratory terrestrial species such as Hirundapus caudacutus (White-throatedNeedletail) and Merops ornatus (Rainbow Bee-eater). The habitats within the study areas arehowever, not considered to represent an important area of habitat for migratory terrestrialspecies in a local or regional context.

Further, the study areas lack substantial permanent water bodies and are therefore consideredunlikely to contain important or significant habitat for aquatic and wetland migratory species(DSEWPaC 2013 (u)).

2.2.1.5. Marine species

No marine species were recorded within the study areas as a result of field survey and scoutingactivities. However, the study areas provide potential habitat resources for a range of listedmarine species (non-oceanic). The habitats within the study areas are, however, not consideredto represent an important area of habitat for marine species in a local or regional context. Thestudy areas lack shore lines and oceanic habitats, and therefore do not support habitat foroceanic marine species or shore birds.

2.2.2. Queensland environmental matters

2.2.2.1. Threatened species (NC Act)

Field survey results concerning NC Act listed flora and fauna are contained in Tables 15 and 16.

2.2.2.1.1. Flora

No flora scheduled as threatened under the NC Act were recorded within the study areas duringthe field survey and scouting activities however, the study areas provide potential habitat for anumber of threatened species. Potential presence of these species is discussed below in Table15.

3. Conclusions and recommendationsDesktop data review, field surveys and scouting activities identified that the proposed road crossings(study areas) offer varying levels of ecological value. Proposed road crossings within the north of thesearch area are predominantly cleared and have been subject to historical disturbance (associated withroad construction and grazing activities) whilst proposed road crossings within the south of the searcharea are predominantly vegetated and show little evidence of significant historical disturbance.

Known and potential ecological values associated with the study areas can be summarised as follows:

The proposed road crossing for CON165-2 contains remnant vegetation identified as RE11.4.10which has a Vegetation Management Act 1999 conservation status of endangered. This communityis also classified as the Brigalow (Acacia harpophylla dominant and co-dominant) TEC under theEnvironment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.

The proposed road crossings for CON156-2 and CON159-3 contain vegetation which has been fieldverified as a mixed polygon containing RE11.5.1 (90%) and RE11.3.2 (10%), the latter of which hasa Vegetation Management Act 1999 conservation status of of concern.

The proposed road crossing for CON134-0 contains vegetation which has been field verified asRE11.3.25 which has a Vegetation Management Act 1999 conservation status of least concern, buta biodiversity status of of concern.

No State or Commonwealth threat-listed flora species were recorded directly within the studyareas however, potential habitat for a number of threat-listed species exists specificallyEleocharis blakeana, Acacia wardellii and Rutidosis lanata which have previously been identifiedin proximity.

No State or Commonwealth threat-listed fauna species were recorded directly within the studyareas however, potential habitat for a number of threat-listed species exists. Those consideredmost likely to occur include Egernia rugosa, Furina dunmalli, Paradelma orientalis, Strophurustaenicauda, Chalinolobus picatus, Nyctophilus corbeni and Calyptorhynchus lathami.

The proposed road crossings for CON156-2 and CON159-3 are located within an area which ismapped as Essential Habitat for Nyctophilus timoriensis (syn. Nyctophilus corbeni).

Although not recorded directly within the study areas, three Type A restricted plants under theNature Conservation Act 1992 namely, Cymbidium canaliculatum, a Pterostylis spp. andXanthorrhoea johnsonii have been recorded in proximity to the proposed road crossings andpotential habitat exists in some road crossings for these species.

Commensurate with the ecological values identified in this report, the following recommendations aremade:

Where potential habitat for threat-listed species has been identified, clearing is to be undertakenin accordance with relevant Threatened Species Management Plans.

- non-threatened seabirds which have only been mapped for recorded breeding sites

- migratory species that are very widespread, vagrant, or only occur in small numbers

- some species and ecological communities that have only recently been listed

Not all species listed under the EPBC Act have been mapped (see below) and therefore a report is a generalguide only. Where available data supports mapping, the type of presence that can be determined from thedata is indicated in general terms. People using this information in making a referral may need to considerthe qualifications below and may need to seek and consider other information sources.

For threatened ecological communities where the distribution is well known, maps are derived fromrecovery plans, State vegetation maps, remote sensing imagery and other sources. Where threatenedecological community distributions are less well known, existing vegetation maps and point location dataare used to produce indicative distribution maps.

- seals which have only been mapped for breeding sites near the Australian continentSuch breeding sites may be important for the protection of the Commonwealth Marine environment.

For species where the distributions are well known, maps are digitised from sources such as recovery plansand detailed habitat studies. Where appropriate, core breeding, foraging and roosting areas are indicatedunder 'type of presence'. For species whose distributions are less well known, point locations are collatedfrom government wildlife authorities, museums, and non-government organisations; bioclimaticdistribution models are generated and these validated by experts. In some cases, the distribution maps arebased solely on expert knowledge.

The information presented in this report has been provided by a range of data sources as acknowledged atthe end of the report.

This report is designed to assist in identifying the locations of places which may be relevant in determiningobligations under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. It holds mappedlocations of World Heritage and Register of National Estate properties, Wetlands of InternationalImportance, Commonwealth and State/Territory reserves, listed threatened, migratory and marine speciesand listed threatened ecological communities. Mapping of Commonwealth land is not complete at thisstage. Maps have been collated from a range of sources at various resolutions.

- threatened species listed as extinct or considered as vagrants

- some terrestrial species that overfly the Commonwealth marine area

The following groups have been mapped, but may not cover the complete distribution of the species:

Only selected species covered by the following provisions of the EPBC Act have been mapped:
