Kristina Erstad-Sankey is the Assessment and Training Center (ATC) Coordinator and the CLASS™ Reliability Anchor at the University of Minnesota’s Center for Early Education and Development (CEED). She has a master’s degree in social work with an emphasis in program evaluation from the University of Minnesota. She is a reliable observer on the Toddler, Pre-K, and K-3 CLASS™ tools. Her work includes observing in early childhood education settings, maintaining rigorous reliability standards for CEED-ATC observers, coordinating CEED-ATC activities, and providing training on various topics to early childhood professionals.

This workshop will give updates on legislation that has affected or will affect early childhood programs in Minnesota.
Chad Dunkley isChiefExecutiveOfficerforNewHorizonAcademyandKinderberryHill.Chadoverseespersonnel,marketing,propertymanagement,andoperations for66 locations.He receivedhis JD fromWilliamMitchellCollegeofLawandhisBA inmanagement fromHamlineUniversity.Chad ispresident of the Minnesota Child Care Association (MCCA) and also the Early Care and Education Consortium. He is very active in the political arena focusingonearlychildhood;hehastestifiedandmetwithnational,state,andlocalofficialstoadvocateimprovingprogramsforyoungchildren.Chadisanactive member of several other professional associations, including the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the Minnesota Association for the Education of Young Children (MnAEYC), Child Care WORKS, Stand for Children, Minnesota Child Care Fraud Task Force, Minnesota Child Care Cost Containment Task Force, Early Childhood Finance Circle, as well as the Minnesota Bar Association and the Hennepin County Bar Association.
Patrick Lobejko joined Ewald in January 2013 as a Government Affairs Consultant. Before joining Ewald Consulting, he served as a Research Consultant for the Majority Caucus in the Minnesota House of Representatives where he worked with the Health and Human Services Committee. There, he assisted members in bill drafting and analyzing legislation. Prior to that, Patrick served in the United States Navy in communications. He served in Italy and spent a year in Afghanistan working with the Afghan National Police.
Patrick started his political career as a researcher and constituent services writer in the House of Representatives and also worked in state government relations for the American Chemistry Council. Patrick has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota and is currently a Masters of Public Affairs Candidate at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs. In his free time he enjoys running, travel and spending time with his wife Heather as much as possible.

B1. The Goodness of Fit: Understanding Individual Differences Among Staff MembersKara Lomen is the Acquisitions and Developmental Editor for Redleaf Press. She has a background in providing training and quality improvement support to early childhood programs and professionals including presenting at both a state and national level. Prior to working for Redleaf Press, Kara worked as the Senior Project Coordinator for the Minnesota Association for the Education of Young Children (MnAEYC) and the Minnesota School Age Care Alliance (MnSACA). Kara has also worked as the director of an early childhood program as well as spent time teaching at both the elementary and middle school level. Kara has her B.A. in Elementary Education from the College of St. Benedict and her M.A. in Educational Leadership from Concordia University-St. Paul.

Sharon Bergen is a full time instructor in the Early Childhood and Youth Development program at Dakota County Technical College. Dr. Bergen has worked professionally in a wide variety of early childhood programs and in positions ranging from teaching to senior management. Dr. Bergen is the author of two books for the early childhood profession and is currently completing a new book supporting the orientation of new teachers in child care programs.
