18th October 2017 Issue 31 St Patrick’s School Vision Statement

St Patrick’s Catholic School in Katanning aims to emulate Jesus through its motto of Concern by engaging children, teachers, parents, community and the parish to work together in a supportive

and happy environment. Our school acknowledges parents as the primary educators of their children, and aims to further develop each child intellectually, emotionally, physically, socially and

spiritually, creating lifelong learners who have the ability to draw upon processes and skills, to cope with future technologies in a changing society. Our school strives to be accepting of multicultural

and individual differences. It acknowledges the rights of children to be safe and values them through pastoral care.

Dear Parents and Guardians, It is a busy week at St Patrick’s; our Year 6 students will be participating in their Confirmation workshop today at 6 pm and then they have their retreat this Friday with candidates from St Bernard’s Kojonup. Next Monday, Bishop Holohan will be visiting our Confirmation candidates to speak with them about the significance of the sacrament and what it means to their life. Confirmation celebrates the presence of the Holy Spirit within us. Our confirmation candidates learn about Pentecost when the Spirit of God came down upon them and filled them with the strength, power and courage that they needed to live out the Good News. Jesus had said to them, that he would send a helper; his Spirit came into their hearts permanently. In the Book of Isaiah 11:2-3, the Gifts of the Holy Spirit are described. In the passage, the gifts are considered ones that Jesus would have possessed. Through Jesus, we also receive the Gifts of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation. GOD’S PATH THE WORD Some Pharisees wanted to trap Jesus. They said to him, “Teacher, you are not afraid of anyone so tell us what you think. Is it against our Law to pay taxes to the Roman Emperor or not? ”Jesus said, “You hypocrites! Why do you try to trap me? Pay to the Emperor what belongs to him and pay to God what belongs to God.” LOOK CLOSER First! We are loved by God who is disappointed when we get off-track by following some ‘other’ god, like money or things. It is not that God wants to control us. Rather, God knows that we will be happiest if we live according to the divine plan.

Father in Heaven, you have created us and you love us. You give us a plan to live by that will

make us happy. Help us to keep your commandments.

Amen.

Learning: In Pre Primary we are continuing to build on our writing skills. The children are learning the finer details of constructing a Weekend Recount and are making use of their writing strategies to come up with some great sentence structures to describe the "what, when, how and who" of their weekends. Mrs Pontillo. Engagement: Wow! Term 4 already. We have been super busy in Kindy learning all about dinosaurs. We know all about herbivores and carnivores. Come and check our classroom out to see what we have been learning about. We have even done our show display on dinosaurs so make sure you have a look at our display at the Katanning Show. Mrs Willey. Accountability: Each week I am fortunate to work with children from different year levels across all learning areas. By having good conversations and completing tasks set by classroom teachers well, we are working as a team towards the same goal. Together with our various volunteers who come through the school, all stakeholders within our school community (staff, students, families and carers), have a responsibility to contribute towards building a successful school environment. Mrs Sugg. Discipleship: Over the past weeks I have been working with the Confirmation Candidates. Sharing and talking with them, about the Fruits and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit has been very enjoyable. The children are learning that they and the people close to them have special gifts and talents that they had not realised that they have. If we look to one another we also have special gifts and talents that we can share with others. Mrs Poett.
