CME - Regulations
• The General Medical Association is committed to the duty of the medical profession to undergo continuing medical education.
• Specialists are under the obligation to participate continuously in certified CME programmes of the Medical Association at local or at national level, in order to be able to exercise their profession according to the state of the art.
• A physician must provide the competent medical association with suitable evidence that he has used the mentioned CME opportunities.
• In order to give medical specialists the possibility to document publicly their participation in structured CME, the Medical Associations have implemented the CME certificate.

CME - Regulations
Model regulation of CME:contains recommendations on the characteristics and conditions needed for effective integration of formal CME.
• All specialists have to gather 250 CME credit-points over a period of 5 years – this amount results in the CME-certificate.– One CME point is equivalent to a
CME unit, which corresponds to 45 minutes.
• The CME certificate is valid for a period of 5 years, after this period its validity expires automatically.
• The law applicable to all procedures referred to in this guideline is the “Allgemeine Verfahrensordnung” i.e. the (State) law regulating administrative procedures.
