• If metadata is not consistent, you increase risks for Data Privacy Exposures, Violations of Corporate Security Guidelines and Federal Exposures like HIPPA, SOX, and SEC.

• If metadata is not consistent, you increase the cost of data storage polices as well as file deletion policies

• If metadata is not consistent, you cannot use metadata to drive work flows and business processes

• Free text does not return all documents for a query, free text will usually bring back too many results, there is no easy way to navigate

• You must have metadata to ensure accuracy and navigation

Metadata Problems

Page 7: Concept Searching Webinar

•Users don’t know what tags to apply to their document to meet corporate or governance requirements

•Documents are not tagged correctly which leads to lost productivity, higher cost of sales and expensive legal ramifications.

•Everyone tags their documents differently

•You say “Potatoe”, I say “Potata”

•Users have to many documents to tag

•5 metatags equal 2 – 15+ minutes of lost productivity.

• Search will return results based on the concept even if the exact terms are not contained in the document (i.e. ‘coronary artery surgery’, ‘heart surgery’)

• Can be used by any search engine index or any application/process that uses metadata
