Computer Networking programs include these three primary areas of study: A+ Certification Classes CompTIA A+ prepares students to become certified computer technicians. Examples of skills you will learn include: trouble- shooting hardware and operating system problems, understanding hardware/soft- ware conflicts and building computers. Cisco Networking Academy Classes Shasta College uses high quality online instructional materials developed by Cisco Systems® to deliver standards-based training in the networking field. Success- ful students will be prepared to take the CCNA, CCNP, or Network+ industry certifi- cation exams. Microsoft Certification Classes Utilizing Microsoft® approved curriculae, students will learn terminology, planning, installation, implementation, and trouble- shooting of networks utilizing Microsoft products. The goal of the program is to prepare students to pass the MCP and MCSE certification examinations. Shasta College encourages students to pursue nontraditional careers in the workforce. Each occupational course/program at Shasta College is open to females and males equally. Computer Networking Degree and Certificate Programs

Employment PotentialA recent study by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that occupations in the computer networking and data communications fields are among the top 10 fastest growing occupations in the country for the period 2004 to 2014.

The computer networking degree and certificate programs at Shasta College are designed to directly address this increasing demand for trained workers in this field.

Depending on geographical location, most entry-level positions have salaries beginning at approximately $40,000 per year. Examples of job titles in this field include:

The ProgramStudents completing a Computer andInformation Systems degree or certificate program in computer networking at Shasta College will gain a solid foundation of skills and knowledge that can lead to asuccessful career. Shasta College offers four (4) options which include twoAssociate in Science degrees (A.S.) and two certificates. The options are described as follows:A.S. Degree, Cisco® Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Option: Designed for students who take the Cisco CCNA certification classes.A.S. Degree, Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP) Option: Designed for students who have already completed the CCNA courses or certification and choose to take the CCNP certification classes.Certificate, CCNA Option: Designed for students who have completed the Cisco CCNA certification classes.Certificate CCNP Option: Designed for students who take the Cisco CCNP certification classes.

Industry CertificationsA major goal of the Computer Networking programs is to prepare students to passinternationally recognized industry certifica-tion exams in the computer field, which include the following: CCNA | Cisco Certified Networking Associate. Beginning level Cisco certification. CCNP | Cisco Certified Networking Professional. Intermediate level Cisco certification. MCP | Microsoft® Certified Professional. Beginning level Microsoft certification. MCSE | Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer. Intermediate to advanced Microsoft certification. A+ | CompTIA (Computer Technology Industry Association) industry neutral certification of microcomputer technical skills. Network+ | CompTIA industry neutral certification of computer networking skills.Industry certification is an increasingly impor-tant qualification for jobs in the computer field and provides assuance to an employer that you have met a minimum level of competent-cy and have the personal traits of diligence, hard work, and follow through.
