HOW TO PLAY

• Shuffle the cards and deal 25 to each player, leaving 12 in the centre pile and one card off to the side as the "Ace Alternate".• Each player then draws 8 cards from their own deck to use for the first round. • Each round has 4 sets which are played as follows:

• One player chooses a composer to send to battle and places the card face up in the centre. • They must designate whether the composer is using his/her compos-ing or performance skills in this battle by saying the composer's name and skill, e.g. "Georg Frederic Handel, Oratorio Authority, 60 points".• The other player must then try to beat this with a card from their hand. To beat it their card must have higher points in the same area, i.e. you cannot play a higher performance superpower against a composing superpower.• Whoever's composer wins gets the 2 cards and add them to their pile.

• Repeat the same procedure for each set, alternating who plays first each time.• Aces are played using their points as stated on the card, but after send-ing an ace to battle, the player can then choose any one card to swap with a card of their choice from their opponent's hand, or with the Ace Alternate.• The winner of the most sets in one round also gets 4 cards from the cen-tre pile to add to their pile. If the players draw (2 sets each) they each get 2 cards to add to their pile.• The winner is the one with the most cards in their pile at the end of 3 rounds.

ASSEMBLYTo assemble this game:

• Print out the game cards (pages 3-16) double-sided. • Trim along the dotted lines. • Laminate if desired.

LEARNING OBJECTIVESThe aim of this game is to familiarise students with some of the key composers from history and what they are famous for. Make the most of these cards by not just playing the game as directed, but giving your student a composer card each week to research and come back with a fun fact about them or to listen to at home or during lab time.
