BW

Sécheron introduced its first disconnector / disconnect switch in 1996, which has for some years now been replaced by the XMS range, to meet the most demanding applications and requirements.

The disconnector is an off-load switch. Mainly used in railways’ locomotives and trains, it is installed in multi-system vehicles to change, for instance, the configuration of the traction circuits and adapt them to the network voltage.

Key features of this off-load disconnect switch are its capability to remain closed on short-time high currents and its short switching time.

With its modular linear construction, the BW series can accommodate a variable number of moving contacts and high voltage terminals (HVn), enabling a wide range of configurations and applications. It is installed inside vehicles, either in upright or horizontal position, and is used to select/change the configuration of traction or/and auxiliary circuits. The BWT type has two vertical rows with up to 24 terminals, while the BWU with four vertical rows counts up to 56 terminals. The device is electro-pneumatically or electrically controlled, and can also be operated manually during maintenance operations.

Earthing switch type BTE03.04 for AC/DC circuits

Sécheron proposes an electrical earthing system based on key interlocking to guarantee the highest degree of safety for maintenance personnel working on railway vehicles, including locomotives, trains and EMUs.

From the pantograph down to the propulsion converter, there are several safety devices that must be installed on the roof and inside the vehicle to isolate and earth the high-voltage equipment. The philosophy is based on a simple step-by-step principle that only enables the safety device to be handled when the previous device in the traction chain has been operated and locked into the earthing position. This principle is implemented through a cascade of security keys and associated locks as shown in the diagram below.

The pneumatic interlocking vavle is a safety device, installed in the pneumatic circuit providing air supply to the pantograph or any other pneumatic driven device used on locomotives, trains and EMUs.

During maintenance operations, the valve is manually switched in the OFF position, interrupting the air supply and releasing the air pressure in the pneumatic circuit of the device it operates. In this safety position, removal of the interlocking key(s) prevents inappropriate operation of the valve, and guarantees the safety of the maintenance operations. As example, the lowered position of the pantograph is guaranteed through the pneumatic interlocking valve, providing the highest safety to the maintenance staff working on high voltage equipments.

Application:

With the BTE range, Secheron offers a complete range of safety switches designed to earth multiple circuit points operating under voltages with a rated insulation voltage up to 4800 Volts.

While the BTE08.10 is a single pole, manually operated disconnect and earthing switch, with a blocking electro-magnet interlocked with the pantograph down position, the BTE03.04 is a combination of twin poles that are simultaneously switched either manually or electrically. The safety position of the manually operated switches is secured through a system of master and slave keys, which mechanically interlocks the BTE with the other upstream and downstream safety devices. For the electrically operated version, integrated auxiliary switches will enable the car builder to manage electrically the earthing safety interlocks.

The BTE03.04A and BTE08.10 are suitable for vehicle’s indoor mounting, while the BTE03.04R is particularly adapted to outdoor roof mounting. Its compact dimensions associated with severe testing procedures, make the BTE switch the ideal solution to earth the high voltage circuits of your railway traction vehicles, including locomotives, trains and EMUs.

The key multiplier can be operated with one or two keys taken from the previous safety device thus releasing the other keys and allowing the maintenance personnel to access the high voltage compartment in complete safety. The key multiplier can integrate up to 8 keys.

The door on which this lock is installed can only be opened by inserting the key released from the previous safety device when it is in the safety position. This same key can then only be released from the door when the latter is closed.

This door lock is the last link in the chain of interlocked safety devices.

Sécheron’s scope

Over more than 35 years Sécheron has been manufacturing and delivering thousands of wheel flange lubricators for railway vehicles all over the world. This equipment is designed to spray lubricant between the rail and the wheel flange in order to reduce the friction between both parts, and consequently their wear. In recent years, in cooperation with the Engineering Services Department of the Austrian Federal Railways, the spray concept has been further improved to ensure optimum efficiency, including with biodegradable lubricants.

The master controller BSK series, manufactured by Sécheron SA for more than 15 years, is now being enlarged with the new MMC model, designed to offer the rail car builders and the operators a fully configurable product which functions, and features can be selected in a catalogue of pre-designed modules. The master controller is designed to be installed in the driver’s cab of all types of rail vehicles (tramway, light rail vehicle, train and locomotive), either on the dash board or in a side console. It is used to transmit the control commands for the vehicle’s operations such as driving speed, braking force and travelling direction, to the on-board traction electronics or to the electromechanical traction control.

Benefits for the user:- Efficient and precise spraying of lubricant on to the wheel flange- Substantial reduction in wheel flange and rail wear- Eco-friendly through the possible use of bio-degradable lubricants- Greater vehicle safety by improving adhesion thanks to reduced friction- Reduction in the noise generated by friction between wheel and rail in curves- Simple installation and low maintenance costs- Reliability, regardless of the working and climatic conditions- Increased vehicle availability

Efficient teams, including Project Managers and Technical Specialists, support our customers throughout their projects and help them to select the most appropriate solutions within our standard product platforms, or propose customized products and complete integrated solutions for their applications.

Sécheron has developed unique core competences related to its activity and can provide our customers with high-value engineering services to support their projects.

The Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) multi-physics tool allows our experts to analyze, simulate and optimize the products and solutions we design, while reducing the technical risks and shortening development times and test cycles.

Our in-house testing laboratories and resources provide rapid temperature rise measurements, dielectric tests, mechanical endurance tests, load interruption (limited) tests, vibrations & shock tests and climate tests, while other tests can be performed externally with the support of our technicians.

Documentation to be delivered at different stages of a project has currently become more diversified and more substantial. It is also a key issue for our customers.

Here again, our team of specialists works to prepare and promptly provide customers with detailed Maintenance & Operations manuals, RAMS analysis, product material lists, type test certificates, fire & smoke certificates, structural simulations, when necessary, and all other useful documents.

The strategy of Sécheron SA is to provide our customers with strong support and dedicated services throughout all equipment purchase and installation phases, as well as during the lifetime of the material once it enters service. To satisfy this commitment, Sécheron has set up a worldwide network of over 40 Sales and Service Points which enable our customers to find local support, whenever possible, and thus be able to address their requests in the most efficient way. The After sales service, provided on a global or local basis, covers at least the following requirements:- Preventive maintenance- Training- Diagnosis and repair

In order to guarantee the reliability and the performance of Sécheron’s safety devices, only Sécheron’s original spare parts must be used through the complete product lifetime.

These original parts, manufactured and checked following rigorous processes, are now stamped with the Sécheron’s logo and the traceability number, either on the parts themselves or on their original packaging.

Contact Sécheron or our official partners (www.secheron.com/World-Wide-Presence) to be supplied with guaranteed original parts.
