CREDIT HOUR EXPLANATIONThe credit hour at the University of New Hampshire isequivalent to one semester hour.

TRANSFER CREDIT – UNDERGRADUATE Courses passed with a C or better at another accreditedinstitution may be accepted for credit and fulfill degreerequirements at the University, upon the approval of thedepartment concerned and the student’s college dean.  

TRANSFER CREDIT - GRADUATECourses passed with a B or better at another accreditedinstitution may be accepted for credit and fulfill graduatedegree requirements at the University, upon the approval of thedepartment concerned and the Dean of the Graduate School.

COURSE NUMBERING SYSTEM

200-299 Courses in Thompson School of Applied Science. 

300-399  Associate in arts/associate in science courses.Courses may be taken for credit only byassociate’s degree or non-degree students.Credits may not be applied to baccalaureatedegrees. 

400-499 Introductory courses not carrying prerequisites andcourses generally falling within University and

college requirements. 

500-599 Intermediate-level courses for undergraduatecredit only. 

600-699  Advanced-level undergraduate courses. Entranceto courses numbered 600 and above normallyrequires junior standing. 

700-799  Advanced-level undergraduate courses. Ordinarilynot open to freshmen and sophomores. 

800-999 Courses that carry graduate credit only andtherefore are open only to admitted or specialgraduate students. 

GRADE POINT AVERAGES Semester and cumulative grade point averages are calculatedfor matriculated students and are based only on UNHcoursework. Averages appear on the transcript and areidentified by “GPA.” The grade point average is computed by dividing a student’s total UNH course grade points (Points) bythe calculable UNH credits attempted (GPA Hrs.).
