Interesting Facts

1.) The term "Holocaust," originally from the Greek word "holokauston" which means "sacrifice by fire,"

2.) In addition to Jews, the Nazis targeted Gypsies, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses, and the disabled for persecution. Anyone who resisted the Nazis was sent to forced labor or murdered.

3.) The term "Nazi" is an acronym for "Nationalsozialistishe Deutsche Arbeiterpartei" ("National Socialist German Worker's Party").

4.) An estimated 1.1 million children were murdered in the Holocaust.

Gas Testing: 1938 Nazis began experimenting with poisonous gas on mental patients to find the deadliest mixture; carbon monoxide

Switch from guns to gas: The Nazis began to complain of battle fatigue and anxiety from killing woman and children, and gas chambers were much less expensive.

6 main camps; Bernburg, Brandenburg, Grafeneck, Hadamar, Hartheim, and Sonnenstein.

Dates: 1941-gas van killings began1942-stationary gas chambers began

How?: The Nazis used carbon monoxide gas which was generated by diesel engines. Jews were told to go take “showers” in these chamber, then locked in and gassed.
