SETTING UP YOUR ZEN GARDEN AQUARIUM

The Nanoponic Series includes an assortment of realistic décor and enough gravel substrate for both the top plant tray and the bottom aquarium.

1. Carefully remove the Nanoponic aquarium from packaging. Check for any signs of damage. If damage is found, please return to original place of purchase.

2. Place the aquarium on a flat level surface. Choose the location carefully. Aquatop recommends using a professional grade level. An uneven surface may result in leakage and/or damage to your aquarium and its inhabitants, which would not be covered under warranty.

3. Remove all aquarium components including the top mounted plant tray, LED fixture, internal filter, gravel and décor. Set items aside.

4. Perform a leak test by placing the unit in its chosen location and filling with water. If there are no leaks, drain the aquarium and begin the setup.

5. Remove the filtration media from the internal filter and rinse with clean, fresh water. Do the same for the included gravel and décor.

6. Insert the filtration media back into the internal filter and re-install the filter in the aquarium.

7. Place the tray on top of the aquarium by aligning the tray hinges to the top of the aquarium glass.

8. Place the LED fixture onto the bottom of the plant tray and then fill the aquarium and the plant tray with the included gravel substrate.

9. Check that the internal filter and top tray are secure.

10. Fill the main aquarium compartment with fresh, de-chlorinated water until the recommended water fill line is reached. The recommended water line is approximately a ¼” above the bottom of the plant tray. (See Fig. 2)

Aquaponics simply put is combining plants and fish together in a mutually beneficial cycle. As fish produce waste the plants use the waste as fertilizer and in turn purify the water for the fish keeping it healthy.

• Create a natural filtration system• Fish waste feeds plants!

• Reduced need for water changes• Grow plants and herbs without soil

11. To start the filtration system, plug in the internal filter. Then plug in the LED light and use the toggle switch to turn on and off. Be sure to create a drip loop (See Fig. 1).

12. Use your included décor to build your aquatic scenery!

NOTE: Before adding aquatic creatures to your new aquarium, please be aware that there are changes in the water parameters that occur within 2-4 weeks of a new tank setup that can create a toxic environment for healthy fish and invertebrates. This process is known as the nitrogen cycle or ‘tank cycling.’ Ensuring that your water is properly ‘aged’ prior to introducing fish will greatly help prevent the loss of livestock in the early stages of a new tank. We recommend using an aquarium grade test kit to test your aquarium water parameters before adding new livestock.

NOTE: To accelerate the nitrogen cycle period, we recommend using Aquatop’s NitroBoost Dry Nitrifying Bacteria. For more information, please contact your local dealer or visit www.aquatop.com

LIVE PLANT TRAY SETUP

1. Place the tray on top of the aquarium by aligning the tray hinges to the top of the aquarium glass.

2. Place the LED fixture onto the bottom of the plant tray and then fill the aquarium and the plant tray with the included gravel substrate.

3. Add live plants or seeds. Be sure to follow the directions provided with the plants/seeds.*

4. Fill the tank so that the water line is approximately ¼” above the bottom of the plant tray (See Fig. 2). It is pertinent that the water line does not fall below the bottom of the plant tray, as this may starve the live plants of nutrients.

5. Be sure to periodically add fresh de-chlorinated water to the main compartment of the aquarium in between water changes to compensate for water evaporation.

6. The plants’ roots will grow around the gravel and extend into the water. Patience is rewarded when growing plants!

*Please contact your local dealer or pet store for more information on suitable semi-submersible plants and herbs to grow.
