SALSA Field Report: 8 Dec 2018. Compiled by Billy Collins SALSA Science Team, Day 2 Update • 21 members of the SALSA science team arrived in McMurdo to warm beautiful weather on Thursday December 6 th . • The team has been busy since their arrival completing the yearly trainings for field safety and life in Antarctica. • The science team unloaded all their shipped science cargo and are unpacking and repacking equipment in order to send gear that has high priority to Lake Mercer on early flights tentatively scheduled for December 12 th and December 18th. The bulk of the Science team will fly to Lake Mercer on December 22 nd . • Team members are busy testing batteries, calibrating instruments, and preparing instruments for a freshwater tank test before being deployed into Mercer Subglacial Lake. • The SALSA Traverse is ahead of schedule, and is likely to arrive at Mercer Subglacial Lake tonight to begin setting up camp. • The Education and Outreach team have been organizing film equipment and continuously filming the continuous prep work of the SALSA science team. 8 Hour C-130 Herc flight to McMurdo Station
