Compelled by love! What compels you to do Fine Arts? There may be a whole list of reasons. Everything from “because my friends do it” and “it’s fun” to the scholarship opportunities. What is at the heart of your answer? As we approach 400,000 Assemblies of God students, represented in every state, we have the incredible privilege and responsibility to reach a world with Christ’s love. Because Christ’s heart is to reach the hurting, the broken and the forgotten, He gives to each of us gifts to help accomplish the task. Your gifts are not confined to a seven-minute presentation on a stage in front of three evaluators. Your gifts are for Christ’s cause, to go into all the world and make followers of Christ, Compelled by Love.Fine Arts is simply a vehicle to help you discover the gifts God has for your life, develop those gifts for greater impact and then deploy these gifts in every situation. No, this doesn’t mean you are to do a human video solo in your biology class, although it might be kind of cool, but it does mean that God will open doors for you to use your gifts.Deploying your gifts may take place on an AIM trip, as part of a street outreach, as part of a Campus Club outreach or as a way to raise money for Speed the Light. You may find your gifts needed during a school assembly as they call upon you to interpret for the deaf, or in a nursing home ministering to the elderly. Yet having a gift and the ability to use it is quite different from being compelled to reach people with that gift. God doesn’t want your gift on a shelf. His desire is for you to experience His power, love and grace through the gift. Once this happens you are in position to allow God’s hand to lead you. So don’t give up on discovering and developing your gifts. Because as Christ’s love compels you, you’ll find that He gives opportunities to deploy them.Remember to thoroughly read the rulebook and put in the time and effort to develop your gifts. If you have questions about your district’s festival, use the contact information at www.faf.ag.org or go to your district youth Website. Please direct questions relating to the 2011 National Fine Arts Festival to the national youth ministries office at 417.862.2781, x4458, or [email protected]. More information is also available online at www.faf.ag.org. See You in Phoenix!
