Focus: Past simple

Time: 20 minutes if students first complete the sentences and questions in writing

10 minutes if the activity is done orally (with more able classes)

Before

the lesson:

Print out the Student's sheet and make a copy for each pair of students. Cutthe sheet in half so that there is a Q and A for Student A and one forStudent B.

In class: On the board write:I went to a restaurant ______________ ago.Ask the students to complete the statement and write it down.

Then writeWhen did you last _________________?And elicit the question about the restaurant. Write the completequestion on the board: When did you last go to a restaurant?

Explain that the students are going to complete sentences aboutwhen they last did an activity and then complete a question to asktheir partner. They first read out / tell their partner their owninformation and then ask their partners the question.
