COMPARISON OF ADJECTIVES

Comparative adjectives is use to compare two things or two people.

Esteban is fatter than Lyan. Or

Lyan is thinner than Esteban.

RULES

There are some specific rules to form the comparatives, these depend of the adjective if it is:Regular, irregular and long adjectives.

REGULAR ADJECTIVES• Usually form the comparative by adding-er to the

adjectivesmall (pequeño) - smaller (más pequeño)

• If the adjective ends with e, only add r to form the comparative:

Large (grande) – larger (más grande)

• To form the superlative change er for the and est with the same rules:

The largest (el mas grande)

• If the word ends with a consonant and then Y change the Y for i then add-er.

Easy (fácil) - easier (más fácil)

• If a word ends with a consonant, a vowel, then another consonant and the stronger the last syllable, double the last letter before adding-er.

Hot (calido) – Hotter (más calido)

• To form the comparative and superlative of adjectives of three or more syllables, add more and the most before the positive form:

Beautiful - more beautiful(hermosa)- (mas hermosa)

• Tea is cheaper than champagne.• Movies are more interesting than TV shows.• Harry is funnier than Paul.• Karen is younger than Alice.• This book is more important than that book.• Your house is older than my house.• Cartagena is hotter than Bogota.
