Compared to screw machines, plastic extrusions, tubing and stampings,Braxton’s deep-drawing techniques offer many benefits:

• starting with flat stock and ending with a tubular part, this process minimizesmaterial waste

• superior part-to-part and batch-to-batch repeatability are assured

• slitting, flaring and hole punching, normally considered secondary operations, canbe performed on the drawing machine

• intricate designs not previously possible can be produced

• raw material is work hardened during the drawing process therefore eliminatingthe need for secondary heat treating on most finished parts

• starting stock can be clad or pre-plated with gold prior to the deep-draw process, guaranteeing even coverage of gold on both the OD & ID of microminiature tubeswith or without a closed end as small as 0.005" (0.13mm) ID. This process alsoeliminates the threat of residual acid trapped in the parts, a type of contaminationthat is commonly found in the barrel plating process

Braxton is experienced in drawing acomprehensive range of conventional andspecial materials, including:

Braxton Manufacturing is ISO 9001:2000certified. Quality is an essential part of ourmanufacturing operation.

In addition to building our own drawing machinesand maintaining in-house die making facilities,Braxton takes many other steps to ensure thesuperior quality of our deep-drawn parts. Themembers of our Quality Assurance staff have anaverage of over 20 years of experience and arehighly trained in the technical aspects ofinspection and testing. Our precision inspectionequipment assists us in the measurement of alldimensional requirements and enables us to workto extremely tight tolerances. All inspectionequipment is regularly calibrated and traceable tothe National Institute of Standards andTechnology. An up-to-date statistical datacollection system, used to monitor and maintaincontrol of critical characteristics, also assists inour problem-solving techniques.

Critical Dimensions and TolerancesWe can deep-draw parts to 0.006" (0.15mm) OD, with wall thicknesses as lowas 0.0005" (0.013mm). Maximum length is 2" (50.8mm), and length-to-diameter ratios greater than 55:1 are attainable. Finished part tolerances areas low as ±0.00015" (0.004mm), with surface finishes to 10 microinches rms.

Like artistic drawing, superior deep drawingtakes talent and the right tools. BraxtonManufacturing has both. Our skilled employeestake pride in creating parts that meet thehighest industry standards for precision. We areable to maintain such exacting standardsbecause our proprietary drawing machines aredesigned and built in-house, and have been formore than 40 years. Coupled with ouradvanced in-house carbon-tungsten die makingfacilities, our drawing machines enable us toproduce parts in more sizes, and withsignificantly superior tolerances and finishes, incomparison to competing products. With up to25 independent tooling stations available on asingle machine, we can add features such asholes, slots and flares, without secondaryoperations. This not only reduces the costs ofadditional handling, but also makes possibleintricate designs not previously practical.

Our CNC department has expanded to meetthe needs of our tool room and machinebuilding department. Use of the most advancedequipment in multi-function CNC machiningtechnology allows us to manufacture andsupply the machine building department withthe precision components required to assemblethe complete drawing machine. Once thecomponents are fabricated, our experiencedmachine builders can complete the assemblyprocess and have a new production machineon line in as few as 2 or 3 weeks.

Braxton Manufacturing was foundedin 1964 in central Connecticut, internationally known as a center ofprecision tool and die making with ahighly skilled work force. In 1972, asecond manufacturing facility wasopened in southern California tosupply deep-drawn components toour growing west coast customerbase. Today, the 60,000-square-footWatertown, Connecticut facility andthe 30,000-square-foot Tustin,California facility are modern, state-of-the-art production plants that provideidentical engineering and productioncapabilities on both coasts. Wecurrently meet the demandingrequirements of customers in a widerange of industries, including medical, communications, aerospace, specialtyautomotive and electronics.

Braxton's engineering department andproprietary drawing machinesconsistently meet the unique size, tolerance and finish requirements of themost challenging applications. If youhave critical parts requirements, contact Braxton today to learn how ourprecision deep drawing process canprovide you with enhanced productionefficiencies and cost savings overtraditional manufacturing methods.
