LINKING OUR MAIN CHARACTER WITH THE MAIN CHARACTER FROM A THRILLER• THE FILM CHARACTER WE ARE LINKING OUR CHARACTER TO IS NEV

SCHULMAN, FROM THE DOCUMENTARY PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER CATFISH. WE CHOSE THIS MOVIE BECAUSE THEY BOTH RELATE MASSIVELY. FOR INSTANCE THEY BOTH INCLUDE TECHNOLOGY, WHICH REACHES OUT TO THE SAME TYPE OF AUDIENCE.

• AS WELL AS NEV IN THE THRILLER IS A VULNERABLE PERSON JUST LIKE RHYDIAN IN OUR OPENING SEQUENCE, THIS IS BECAUSE NEV IS TRICKED AND MANIPULATED INTO THINKING THAT THE PERSON HE WAS TALKING ONLINE WAS A REAL PERSON, WHEN IT WASN’T WHO HE THOUGHT IT WAS. RHYDIAN IS VULNERABLE IN OUR OPENING SEQUENCE DUE TO HIM BEING DECEIVED INTO GETTING A VIRUS ON HIS COMPUTER.

COMPARISON BETWEEN CHARACTERS

On the right is Nev Schulman from Catfish which was released in 2010, and on the right is Rhydian. By looking at the two pictures you can already see some resemblance, due to both of them wearing glasses (stereotype for being a nerd), also both of them are on computers in both of the screenshots, this proves how similar they are as they are both interested in technology. As a group our aim was that Rhydian tried to convey that he was near or the same age as Nev. Lastly we realised that in the opening sequence and Catfish that neither of them have many friends, which is another similarity.

LINKING OUR MAIN CHARACTER WITH THE MAIN CHARACTER FROM A THRILLER

• THE SECOND MOVIE THAT WE THOUGHT OUR OPENING SEQUENCE CHARACTER WAS SIMILAR TO, WAS A CHARACTER CALLED TOM FROM THE NEWLY RELEASED NETFLIX MOVIE ‘IBOY’. THIS IS BECAUSE ONCE AGAIN THEY BOTH INCLUDE TECHNOLOGY , SO IT WOULD INTEREST THE SAME AUDIENCES. BOTH CHARACTERS ARE AROUND THE SAME AGE TOO AND THEY’RE BOTH VERY GEEKY, WITH BOTH HAVING LITTLE FRIENDS IN THE MOVIE AND OPENING SEQUENCE.

• I COULD SAY THEY ARE BOTH VULNERABLE TOO, AS THE MAIN CHARACTER IN ‘IBOY’ IS SHOT AT THE BEGINNING.

COMPARISON BETWEEN CHARACTERS

On the left is Tom from iboy, as you can see they are quite similar, and both have very similar characteristics.

LINKING A CHARACTER WITH A CHARACTER FROM A MOVIE

• OUR LAST LINKING IS FOR THE CHARACTER THAT IS SHOWN AT THE END OF THE OPENING SEQUENCE, THIS CHARACTER IS SUPPOSED TO BE A STRANGER ON THE STREET THAT RHYDIAN THINKS IS SOMEONE AGAINST HIM. HOWEVER RHYDIAN HALLUCINATES THIS, AND THE SHOT IS FROM HIS PERSPECTIVE. I THOUGHT THE CHARACTER COULD BE COMPARED TO A CHARACTERS FROM THE SERIES ‘HUMANS’, WHICH IS ABOUT ROBOTS IN HUMANS.

COMPARISON BETWEEN CHARACTERS

As you can see there are some similarities from the first sight, for instance both have a symbol to represent that there is something wrong with them, such as the actor from Humans is a robot and I have something wrong with me from Rhydian’s perspective in the opening sequence. Also from looking at both of their facial expressions, there are both very blank and bleak.

EVALUATION

• I BELIEVE THAT, WITH OUR OPENING SEQUENCE CHARACTERS, BEING TO BE EASILY LINKED TO A REAL CHARACTER FROM A THRILLER, MAKES OUR OPENING SEQUENCE MORE PROFESSIONAL, AND EASIER TO UNDERSTAND AS A THRILLER.
