Pure Rotorua Heli-Hangi

We begin your fabulous experience by being picked up in your private helicopter from your luxury lodge and take a scenic flight to the beautiful Lake Rotoiti where we will land at a real Marae for an exclusive experience. We are welcomed on to this sacred land of the Ngati Pikiao tribe in the traditional way by the local families ready for an interactive and genuine encounter.

After the Powhiri welcoming we have the opportunity to listen to stories particular to the local tribe, ask questions of our friendly hosts and/or help out with final preparations of our Hangi (Earth Oven) cooked lunch.

Once the food has been laid down to be cooked we rejoin our pilot and fly out to one of New Zealand’s absolute gems, Whakaari. We land and take the opportunity to explore the living landscape that is White Island Volcano with its unique lunar-like landscape, active volcanic vents, bubbling hot streams and a steaming Crater Lake.

On our return to the Marae we make our way straight to the Hangi pit and work along side our local whanau chef to uplift the food and make final preparations before enjoying an amazing and delicious traditionally cooked Maori feast.

We then have the opportunity to experience a sharing of the performing arts side of the Maori culture with some of the local whanau. Learn about the importance of song and dance and see haka first hand.

Eventually we farewell our new friends of the Ngati Pikiao tribe and travel just a few short minutes down the road to board a 53ft luxury catamaran and enjoy a relaxing private sailing charter on Lake Rotoiti. We can also make our way to tribally owned hot pools that are only accessible boat for a soak in pools filled with natural geothermal water. Day done and dusted we travel back to the lodge and reflect on an amazing day out.

9am – Heli-pick up from Taupo945am – Arrive at Lake Rotoiti and land at Marae – Powhiri welcoming and interactions with local tangata whenua1030am – Heli-White Island 1pm – Arrive back at Marae and uplift food. Exclusive Tarawera ExperienceMeeting your private guide for the day, we fly over the Volcanic Plateau, including the Blue and Green Lakes, before landing on the majestic Mt. Tarawera. Enjoy expansive views of the craters formed during the 1886 eruption and the 7km long volcanic rift that runs the mountains length.

Continue our flight over picturesque Lake Tarawera before landing at the start of our next adventure, Tarawera Falls. Enjoy following the track inland, along the pristine waters of the Tarawera River. Hike approximately 2 hours through volcanic landscapes and native bush traversing over underground streams and panoramic vistas to arrive at our destination and awaiting picnic lunch at beautiful Tarawera Falls.

We continue a short 15minutes to our private transportation and travel by road for approximately 45mins to meet our 53ft luxury catamaran for sailing on Lake Rotoiti withoptions of hot pool soaking, fishing and cliff jumping.

Eventually we return back to the lodge after an amazing day out.

Exclusive Rotorua Adventure DayAn epic day out in Rotorua, this exclusive itinerary will see you undertake some of New Zealand’s highlight adventure activities.

We start the day with mountain biking on the world famous trails of Rotorua in the Whakarewarewa forest. Donning the latest Bell Helmets and full suspen-sion Giant mountain bikes, we explore some of the 150kms of purpose mountain bike tracks. With options for beginners right through to profes-sionals, this forest is the perfect option for anyone who can ride a bike.

We keep the buzz going and head out to tackle the Kaituna river, home of the worlds highest commercially rafted waterfall, Tutea, which stands at 7m tall. Your guides ready you by firstly gearing up with the latest NRS water wear before teaching you the skills needed to navigate this awesome piece of whitewater. While a short river run, our 45mins on the water sees us making our way down through the Kaituna

To cap off this amazing day we board a 53ft luxury catamaran and enjoy a gourmet bbq lunch while sailing Lake Rotoiti to geothermal hot pools only accessible by boat.

This itinerary is an absolute must do for those staying at Huka Lodge. The upper reaches of the Waikato River are absolutely stunning with crystal clear waters, beautiful vegetation, options for cliff jumping for the young or young at heart and a natural hot water geothermal stream we can stop and soak in.

Making life as easy as possible, we bring your rafting equipment to your room at Huka Lodge where you can change and ready for your excursion at your leisure.
