WHS Visual Arts Department COMPUTER ART I & II Amy Stewart Art Fee: There is an Art FEE of $10 due in one week (Monday, January 30 th ) This fee will supply most of the art supplies needed for each student during the semester; Including ink, printer paper, adhesive materials, poster board, mat board & ADOBE CREATIVE SUITE programs used (ILLUSTRATOR< PHOTOSHOP< INDESIGN<FLASH<DREAMWEAVER). Class Supplies: Flash Drive (2GB min pref. 4GB), Pencil and/or pen FLASH DRIVE must be brought to class daily. Students will receive ONE FREEBIE for leaving flash drive at home after that points will be deducted from students grade & alternate/additional assignments will be given. PLEASE KEEP UP WITH YOUR FLASH DRIVE- Your flash drive in this course is the same as your notebook & textbook in standard classes. If you worry about losing your work you may want to have a back up flash drive as well that you can leave in the room. You cannot rely on saving your files to the school network due to space capacity and glitches in the system. Lost flash drives and/or files does NOT excuse student from completing work. If flash drive is lost, student will be responsible for recreating their project in a timely manner. Extensions will only be granted due to circumstances. Art Goals and Expectations: Students will learn to develop creative thinking skills for understanding and creating art, as well as understand different photographic techniques and different digital programs. Students will plan and organize work, using a variety of digital art programs, while using the components of a successful composition. Students will learn to use the ADOBE creative suite programs (Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDESIGN) collectively to produce a final work of ART. Students will reflect upon the merits of their work through self and class critiques. Students will perceive connections between the graphic arts and other disciplines. Students will develop an awareness of digital art as a profession. Grading Scale: Student’s grades will be based on the following for each 9 weeks: PROJECTS 60%, QUIZZES 20%, PARTICIPATION 20% All projects are given a due date and should be turned in on time. Projects drop 5 points each day they are late. These points are taken off the grade students would have received not off a 100. Projects are evaluated on assigned objectives, creativity, originality, as well as craftsmanship. Students will complete various exercises and classroom assignments while learning the Adobe programs. Students will be responsible for keeping all of these items including notes and handouts in a notebook. (All grades given on unexcused absence day will result in 69% of grade-WHS policy) Average of each 9 week grade= 75% Final Exam = 25% The art exam is only required if students miss more than 2 days of class or are failing the course. All students are welcome to take the exam to help their grade!

Art Rules & Guidelines • Enter the lab quietly and begin working promptly at assigned computer ONLY! • KEEP YOUR COMPUTER AREA CLEAN by returning all materials to the appropriate place. • Log off computer and turn off monitor (reposition) at the end of class period. • BRING FLASH DRIVE TO CLASS EVERYDAY!!!!!!! • NO FOOD, GUM, CANDY, or DRINKS in the lab!!! NO EXCEPTIONS (unless medical) • No cell phones are to be seen! Phones will be taken and turned into main office. • Earphones will be allowed at times to listen to music on a computer playlist, not ipod or phone. • Stay on task and use ADOBE computer programs ONLY. • WEB games, Facebook, instant messaging, MySpace, twitter, personal email and other social internet

sites are not permitted. (ONLY approved games will be permitted as projects are completed) Students caught on inappropriate sites will lose computer time for one week and grades during that period will result in a ZERO! THIS IS SERIOUS & RCS BOARD POLICY!

Attendance & Tardy Policy Parents will be contacted by phone call at student’s 5th absence. Student will be referred to the attendance committee at 8 absences and placed on an attendance contract. Students must meet the guidelines of the contract in order to receive credit for their course. Students are ALWAYS responsible for finding out and completing all make up work. Students will only receive 69% of their grade on unexcused absences. Students must have a note the day after an absence to be admitted into class. (Otherwise cutting class) Teacher will call home at the 5th tardy and after-school detention will be assigned. On the 6th tardy, the WHS attendance committee may set up a conference between the teachers, parents, and student. (The above attendance and tardy policies are school wide at Wheatmore High School)
