Faith at Work
As on past Labor Day Sunday s,
whoev er is so inclined, is inv ited to
take an item that represents y our
Faith at Work to the table near the
altar to receiv e a blessing from Pastor

Mambo & Mozart
This Sunday , Septem ber 2 at 5:3 0
P.M., guest Artist, Astrid Morales,
will be joining with Adv ent’s own
Ky le Jones for a fun ev ening of m usic
m aking to benefit the Belov ed
Com m unity Arts Center. The concert
will be held at Adv ent. The program
will include an energetic m ix of m usic
from Mozart’s Sonata for Two Pianos
as well as other two pianos
arrangem ents celebrating Hispanic
m usical heritage. Ms. Morales will
showcase piano solos by Mexican
com posers like Manuel Ponce and
accom pany Mr. Jones as he sings
songs by Mozart and traditional
Spanish folk tunes.

a follow-up surv ey at the end of the

Septem ber 9 is an exciting and
im portant opportunity for Adv ent to

other ELCA congregations working in
solidarity across the country to do
God's work in the world. How can y ou

Women's Leadership atAdvent
Building on the Wom en’s Leadership
introductory m eetings of this
sum m er, further gatherings hav e
been scheduled, beginning on
Tuesday , Septem ber 1 1 , 7 :00-8:3 0
p.m . Karen Parker and Lou Ann Trost
will facilitate these gatherings. Those
who attended an introductory
m eeting are inv ited to participate in
these gatherings, as are any other
wom en who did not. Read m ore about

Peanut Butter andJelly
Adv ent collects non-perishable food
for the Reach Out food bank at St.
Catherine Church in Morgan Hill.
Food of the m onth for Septem ber is
peanut butter and jelly in honor of
Back to School. Other item s welcom e
any tim e are: tuna, canned
fruits/v egetables, rice, beans, hearty
soup/chili, and ev en baby diapers.
Item s can be placed in the white wire
baskets near the office at Adv ent.
Intercambio Potluckwith BCAC Families
Sunday , Septem ber 1 5, 1 2 - 1 :00 P.M.
The v ision of The Belov ed Com m unity
is building relationships. Sitting down
together to share a sim ple potluck
lunch is an easy and fun way to do
that. We inv ite BCAC fam ilies and
people in the congregation to com e
together for a potluck with a
twist: The form at of the potluck is for
ev ery one to speak for 3 0 m inutes in
Spanish and then for 3 0 m inutes in
English. If y ou don’t know ev en a
single word of Spanish, do not be
afraid! We will help each other. You
will learn at least one or two new
words or phrases and get to share the
com pany of delightful people y ou
m ay not know y et, along with a
shared m eal. We will hav e som e
sim ple phrase sheets av ailable for
lim ited Spanish and lim ited English
speakers to use if y ou like.

Third Quarter MissionProject
For the third quarter, Adv ent
Lutheran has selected Lutheran
World Relief (LWR) as our third
quarter m ission project. LWR is
prov iding direct support to the
fam ilies who are currently displaced
by the war in their country . The last
tim e we gav e support to this
organization, it was to help refugees
who were here in the U.S. This tim e
we are assisting those people who are
still in the Middle East. Please
consider helping these fam ilies who
hav e been affected by war and
conflict.
Save the Date
New Life Band will be perform ing at
Adv ent the weekend of October 1 3 -1 4.
There will be a concert on Saturday ,
October 1 3 th and and they will also
lead m usic for worship on Sunday ,
October 1 4th. New Life Band from
Tanzania, East Africa, is an inter-
denom inational m inistry that serv es
as an instrum ent to transform the
liv es of y outh and students within
Tanzania through the gospel of Jesus
Christ by giv ing them hope and
