The Angel Foundation is a Twin- Cities based foundation that provides assistance, education and support to local adults and kids with cancer. Since 2001 the Angel Foundation has provided more than 5 million dollars in emergency financial assistance and has helped more than 24,000 people through its programs. There are two main programs that are run through the Angel Foundation. The first is Emergency Financial Assistance program. This program provides assistance to adults in active treatment for cancer. They can help provide assistance for basic needs such as food, gas, utilities and housing. The second is the Facing Cancer Together program. This program provides free education and support programs to families with school-age children living with a parental cancer diagnosis. In June I volunteered at the Angel Foundation in the Facing Cancer Together program for their annual Kids Kamp 2015. This was a 3 day camp where children ages 5-17, who has a parent or close relative with cancer, were able to come and participate in different activities throughout the day with other children in the same situation. The Kids Kamp had a little over 160 kids in the 3 day event. For the younger children (5-12) the camp was a day event starting in the morning at ending around 4 pm. For the teens (13-17) the camp was a 3 day 2 night camp where the teens were put up in dorms and activities continued into the night such as the annual bonfire and karaoke. I worked with the younger kids aged 5-9. We had 16 kids in our group (by the way that was a bunch!) who all had a parent with cancer. We did many projects throughout the day. We started with making bracelets for each kid. The bracelets had many different beads but each kid was given a “wings of hope” pennant to put in the middle of the bracelet. Many of the projects or
