Dear St. Justin: I’ve been to three charitable organizations so far this year. What can I say, sometimes you hit bottom and need help back up.
The first two were horrible. (Organization name withheld) staff was rude and condescending. The clients were grabbing everything they could get and it was really overcrowded and disorganized. (Organization name withheld) is a money grabbing “church” that helps you only if you’re a card carrying paying member.
That being said, St. Justin’s is GREAT!!! They are compassionate, very well organized and caring people. I needed clothes for interviews and they hooked me up. Instead of just beans and rice and bread, they actually give you items to make healthy meals. It doesn’t cover needs for the whole month but it’s a great supplement.
Last, but not least, the staff. The volunteers are very helpful and everybody I’ve come in contact with has been kind and understanding. The last thing you need when you’re down on your luck is to be treated like a loser.
Oh, and I went to an interview wearing one of the outfits that I was given and I start my new job 1/5/15. Thank you to Joe and the staff at St. Justin’s. I couldn’t have done it without you. (Name withheld)
Sometimes when I wonder if what we do really makes a difference, a note like that one comes along to remind me that “WE DO!”
When everything was said and done at the end of 2014, St. Justin Community Ministry had packed and distributed food to an average of over 3,000 people each month. Thanksgiving food was given to about 700 families. For Christmas, we distributed food to over 730 families and provided Christmas presents to over 2,300 children and grandchildren. Our extra gifts were taken to Sacred Heart Community Services where they were distributed before Christmas.
It would be impossible to name all the individuals that help with Community Ministry throughout the year. Many of you also helped with our Thanksgiving and Christmas projects that brightened the lives of so many. Thank you all for all you do for others, God Bless and Happy New Year! Joe Bauer

Message from the Office of the Bishop Temporary Liturgical
Adaptations during the Flu/Cold Season
1.We will suspend offering Holy Communion under both Species.
2. Holy Communion will be distributed only into the hands of communicants; during this time,
Holy Communion will not be distributed on the tongue.
3. The Sign of Peace should be adapted so as to allow for a
greeting that does not involve shaking hands or touching.
4. People should avoid holding hands during the recitation or singing of the Lord’s Prayer.
5. A reminder that the obligation to participate in Sunday Mass
does not hold for those who are seriously ill or may have flu or
cold symptoms.
When appropriate, we will return to our normal liturgical practices,
which highly value full participation in the Eucharist
through the sharing of the cup and generous signs of hospitality,
reconciliation, and unity.
