According to a front page story in the August 1979 issue of the Victoria Gazette, Community Living was a group home organized in 1970 that provided lifetime care for adults who needed assistance with dialing livng needs. Community Living worked with families and agencies to set up long term goals for its residents. Community Living consisted of 42 residents in four cottages in a home-like atmosphere. Jerry Gross was the President and Director of Community Living. Julius Moehl was the Program Director. Metal frames of the cottages, left standing alone after exterior demolition, went to recycling. Bethesda Cornerstone Village Victoria, which is an $18 million integrated Christian community living option for active seniors and independent adults with a developmental disability, began construction in August. Kraus Anderson is serving as construction manager. Cornerstone Village will be a first of its kind in the United States. It will be a place where people of all abilities live, socialize, and even worship together. Once complete, Cornerstone Village will be a 52-unit Christian, adult, residential, community catering to seniors and people with an intellectual/developmental disability who live independently. Cornerstone Village will offer apartment homes and villas that will integrate people with a disability with adults of all abilities 55 years and older. Up to 25% of units will serve persons with a disability. Residences will further include technology that empowers independent living. Plans call for 15 townhome units and 37 apartments with underground parking, for a campus that will exceed 83,000 square feet. Plans call for Cornerstone Village to be open in July 2020. Bethesda intends to expand the concept by building additional Cornerstone Village locations across the country. Headquartered in Watertown, Wisconsin, Bethesda is a national organization providing homes and other services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and is celebrating its 115th anniversary in 2019.
