Spring Issue ~ April 2017

Community Lay Director’s Letter

Dear DaySpring Emmaus Community:

Spring has sprung and we can start to see the wonders of God’s great

creation when we see trees budding and all things coming to life. We

plant seeds, flowers and begin to groom our lawns and gardens for new

life. The same can be said for our upcoming walks. Hopefully the seed

has already been planted in the pilgrims and God will use our community

to water, feed and prepare them for leadership in His mighty Kingdom.

As a community, we can take part in this great awakening by doing some

simple acts of agape. Praying for the lay directors, team members and

pilgrims, making agape such as homemade snacks, table agape (100

items) and pillow agape (50 items) are all ways to participate as a com-

munity. Also, please consider serving a meal during the walks, attending

candlelight and signing the prayer chart. Finally, attending all the walk

events such as team dedication (April 9th @ 3:00 @ First Baptist Church),

send off, candlelight and closing bring the body of Christ together in love.

Candlelight for the Spring walks will be held at Lincoln Hills Christian

Church. We will have voting for prospective new board members prior

to candlelight on April 22nd and April 29th. Follow-up for the upcoming

walks is May 13th at Unity Chapel in Ramsey. Please remember to bring

a covered dish or two because we do not ask the pilgrims to bring food.

See this edition of the newsletter to determine what to bring.

Finally, I want to thank everyone in this Community for their dedication

in serving. The agape that is given by your acts of discipleship encour-

ages me to serve and love. I am always in awe of the love that is shown

to the pilgrims.

Dayspring Emmaus Walk # Pilgrims

Page 6: Community Lay Director s Letter a · Community Lay Director’s Letter Dear DaySpring Emmaus ommunity: Spring has sprung and we can start to see the wonders of God’s great creation

In order to sponsor a pilgrim you will need to go through a sponsor-

ship training session. A session is approximately 30 minutes. Even if

you have sponsored pilgrims on previous walks, this training is re-

quired. You need only complete the training once in order to sponsor

pilgrims in the future. This training program will be presented by the

DaySpring Emmaus Community Board members at various venues throughout the community over the next several months and at all

future follow-ups. If there are any reunion groups or church groups who would like to host the sponsorship training contact Jo Norman

([email protected]) to get scheduled. There will be sponsorship training at the February gathering.

THE KEY TO A SUCCESSFUL WALK IS PRAYER.

THROUGHOUT THE BIBLE MEN AND WOMEN PRAYED. ABRAHAM PRAYED AND GOD SAVED LOT.

ELIJAH PRAYED AND FIRE FELL FROM HEAVEN AND CONSUMED THE OFFERING. HEZEKIAH PRAYED AND GOD ADDED 15 YEARS TO HIS LIFE. DANIEL PRAYED. PAUL PRAYED. PETER PRAYED. EARLY CHURCH PRAYED AND AN ANGEL LED PETER OUT OF PRISON.

JESUS PRAYED OFTEN. Luke 5:16 “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.

IN THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT, Matthew 6: 5 JESUS SAID, “And when you pray,” THERE IS NO DOUBT, JESUS EXPECT HIS PEOPLE TO PRAY.

WHAT A PRIVILEGE THAT YOU AND I HAVE TO COME INTO PRESENCE OF GOD, THE FATHER,THROUGH PRAYER. IT IS PRAYER WHICH MOVES US CLOSER TO GOD. IT IS THE PRAYERS OF THE MEN AND WOMEN OF THE DAYSPRING EMMAUS COMMUNITY

WHICH WILL MOVE GOD TO PERFORM MIRACLES IN THE LIVES OF PILGRIMS ON THE UPCOMING WALKS. DR. R.T. KENDALL IN HIS BOOK, ‘DID YOU THINK TO PRAY’ writes, “when you ask God to act on behalf of others, you are lifted into the big leagues. It glorifies God and sets him in action on their behalf.”

WE NEED YOU TO GO ONLINE TO THE DAYSPRING WEBSITE AND SIGN UP TO PRAY FOR THE UPCOMING WALKS. IT IS THE BEST ACT OF AGAPE WHICH YOU CAN DO.

MAY GOD BLESS YOU FOR BEING HIS SERVANT. Rev. David Bailey Community Spiritual Director

What is a Reunion Group? The Emmaus group reunion is a small accountability group of two to 12 persons who have usually participated in the three-day Walk to Emmaus and who want to continue their pursuit of a life lived wholly in the grace of God. These small follow-up groups help pilgrims translate the message conveyed

on the Walk to Emmaus weekend into a daily walk with Christ. With the regular support of a few faithful friends, the gift of God's love in Jesus Christ becomes a lifestyle of Christian discipleship through the threefold discipline of piety, study, and action. Group reunions meet at regular times, usually weekly for an hour. The meeting

consists of persons' sharing the stories of their walk with Christ during the past week. Members listen to one another, celebrate the grace of God in each person's life, and reinforce each one's core commitment to living in union with Christ in all facets of daily life. Members express that reinforcement through gentle accountability,

encouragement, and support of one's stated discipline and plans. Excerpted from The Group Reunion by Stephen D. Bryant. Copyright © 1995 by The Upper Room

Do We have Your Correct Contact Information ??

In an effort to make sure we can reach all the DaySpring Emmaus Community Members, a committee has been formed to reach out and verify current contact information. You may receive a phone call or email asking for updated information. This will help our future Lay Directors more easily contact potential team members, as well as make sure that you are aware of Community Opportunities. In addition, we will be putting a link on the DaySpringEmmaus.org website. Clicking that link will send an email to a committee member, where you can provide or confirm your current contact information. And please rest assured that your personal information will never be shared with any outside party. We appreciate your help.
