Thoughts from Women’s Walk #46 Lay Director...

Well the Western New York Women's Walk to Emmaus # 46 is over. Or is it? The physical weekend may have

ended but the Walk - the Journey will never end for the grace of God goes on before us continually and will never

end. That's one thing that became richly embedded in our hearts this weekend! God's grace is endless. It calls to us

before we are even aware through Previenient Grace. It equips us through Justifying Grace and the Means of Grace.

Not because we deserve it - it's totally unmerited and a gift of God's great love.

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is

not irritable, and keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever

the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circum-

stance." I Co. 13:4-7 ( Life Application Study Bible - New Living Translation)

Sanctifying Grace empowers and perfects us to become more mature as Christians. Then as we mature God gives us

the fruits of the Spirit so we can more maturely serve the Body of Christ.

Walk # 46 was full of remarkable women and a man - of God. Some were called Servants and some were called Pil-

grims but all were people of incredible heart, beauty and undeniable Christian Faith. We shared with one another. We

laughed with one another. We cried with one another. We grew with one another. Through the breaking of bread

together in meals and in Communion we felt the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ. We gave our burdens to God in

our Chapel visits and Dying Moments. We went from a lighthearted Banquet and Skit to the awesome wonder of Can-

dlelight. We learned more ways in which we can put our new knowledge into action and then had a chance to share a

glimpse of what this encounter with Christ has meant for us during Closing.

We had representatives on this walk from Walk #1 thru Walk #45 and a couple who started their journeys in other

Emmaus Communities! So I ask once again is Walk # 46 over? Not by a long shot! It is no more over than Walk #1 or

Walk #2, etc., etc. ..... The Journey is alive in the hearts and lives of all who Sponsored, who served in the Kitchen,

who helped with Community service behind the scenes, who attended Candlelight, who prayed in the 72 Hour Prayer

Vigil, who attended Closing, and who have attended a Walk to Emmaus or Chrysalis Flight!

I extend my heartfelt thanks to all who were involved in making this weekend an amazing grace event!

Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scrip-

tures? Luke 24:32 (KJV)

DeColores,

Mary Trowbridge WW#46 Lay Director (God's enthusiastic supporter)

Abbreviated message from Men’s #46 Lay Director

The men’s walk was a true gift to all who participated.

The Holy Spirit was ever present. I will write a longer

article for next month. Jim Moody

(Received via text from Jim’s hospital room.

Specifics are on the prayer chain). Please pray

for restored health & renewed strength.

Christ has died!! Christ is risen!! Christ will come again!!

“and (Jesus) said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that re-

pentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations beginning from Jerusalem.” Luke 24: 46b - 47

Walk #46 Reunion De Colores! And warmest greetings to the newest members of our Emmaus Community! What a wonder-

ful, spirit-filled event Walk #46 was! It was such a great blessing to watch the Holy Spirit at work on both

Walks, to hear the inspiring testimony of God working in the lives of the Pilgrims on their journey, and to

finally meet our long awaited visitors from North of the border!

There is still one more event, near and dear to my heart remaining, to bring Walk #46 to complete fruition.

REUNION! Walk #46 Reunion will be held on April 26, at Akron UMC, from 9:00 to 3:00. We will gather in

the Fellowship Hall at 9:00 (ish), for refreshments, fellowship and singing, and official proceedings will begin

around 10:00. Please bring a snack for the table, a bag lunch, your name tag, cross, service card, notebook

and pen, and join us for a fun day of reconnecting with your new friends and getting to meet their significant

others, and learn a little more about what goes into holding a Walk. The Reunion is open to all Community

members, not just Walk #46, so if you were unable to greet our new members, this is an opportunity to

welcome them to the Community.

In other Fourth Day business, plans for the Annual Summer Picnic are continuing. The Millville Gathering has

agreed to host this year, and are in the process of nailing down a definite date and time, probably late July or

early August, possibly we will have it confirmed by the Reunion. Stay tuned for details and directions.

See you at the Reunion!

Chrysalis Registrations Needed—Please don’t “hold onto them until the last minute”

We have ONE registration for the Girls Flight #16 (as of the date that this article was written). The deadline of May 3rd is fast approaching. If you have a caterpillar wanting to go please get the applications to us ASAP. If you do not have a caterpillar ready to go please consider sponsoring one. The caterpillar does not have to be from your church. Other places to consider: 1) A family member 2) A neighbor 3) A friend of the family 4) A friend of a neighbor 5) If you all ready have a caterpillar, ask the caterpillar if she/he has a friend that would like to go. Think outside the box. It is our responsibility as an Emmaus/Chrysalis community to help our youth build their relationships with Christ. What better way to do that than to sponsor them on a Chrysalis flight. Any questions please do not hesitate to contact us at: [email protected] 585-750-6421 585-964-8104 Proverbs 22:6 Train a child in the way he should go; and when they are old they will not turn from it.

Chrysalis Registration Vickie and Erich Jones

AGAPE Planning for the Fall Walks #47 is in progress. The team selections will take place soon. Please pray that those asked

to be on team will accept to serve God. Now is the time to start praying for the teams and about who YOU will be

sponsoring. With the number of members we have, we should be able to have full Walks every time. Start think-

ing about agape for the up-coming walks! For those who supply agape for the walks please identify what individual or

gathering supplies it. This will make it easier to return extras back. Again, pray for the teams as they develop and

throughout the coming months. “Pray without ceasing!”

72 Hour Prayer Vigil

Remember your walk and seeing the posted prayer vigil. There were so many people praying for you and

your fellow pilgrims and the team. Just 30 minutes to devote to the new pilgrims and the team members

over their weekend will show that you truly care.

The Prayer Vigil address will be coming Soon!!

De Colores Rich and Nancy Preston, Agape Chairs

Now that you know how many it

takes….Pick up an envelope of placemats &

napkins to decorate for upcoming weekends.

News from Facilities First off, we would like to thank the Akron First United Methodist Church for hosting our Spring Walks. They

were great to work with. We would also like to thank Mo & George Poteat who did a great job as the Out of Confer-

ence Room Team Coordinators.

The Fall 2014 Walks will be held in at Christ United Methodist Church in Olean, NY. The date for the Men’s

Third Teaming is September 26-27 and the date for the Men’s Walk is October 16-19. The date for the Women’s

Third Teaming is October 24-25 and the date for the Women’s Walk is November 6-9. The Reunion is November

22. Please start praying for the Walks and consider who you might sponsor.

It was great to see so many at the closing in Akron, but remember we are guests in the host church. Please

pick up after yourself as you are leaving the sanctuary.

As we finish our term as Facilities Coordinators in 2014 please pray as to whether you are being called to

serve. Please consider taking over the 3-year board position. Pray about it and you can contact us at

[email protected]. DeColores, Trudie & Bob Slocum, WNY Walk to Emmaus Facilities Coordinators

For those of you who have not heard – there will be an open worship for our Western New York Community and their

friends. We wanted to offer another opportunity for us to join in fellowship and worship – besides the “walks.” We also want to create a space for potential pilgrims or caterpillars to experience the Spirit within our community. Therefore, this worship event will leave out some of our traditions so that the flavor of our experiences on the weekends is not diluted out – and we are left

with a few surprises. The first of these worship services will be held on May 4, 2014. The locations will move about the Western New York area, but May 4 will be hosted by Baker Memorial UMC, 345 Main Street, East Aurora, 14052. You are welcome to start arriving

around 6:30 p.m. for singing and our worship will begin at 7:00 p.m. Our goal is to strengthen who we are as an Emmaus Commu-nity and to grow in our purpose and mission. We also thought this would be a great outlet where folks could be “introduced” to us. So put together a group and join us! Decolores – Pastor Rick Community Spiritual Director

Leadership Training Event

On Saturday June 7th WNY will be hosting a Walk to Emmaus leadership training event

at The Hamburg United Methodist Church. This is a new leadership training format that The

Upper Room has been using for several years. Several of our northeast regional leaders will

be leading us this day. There will be a clergy session, and also several laity session during the

day. Some of the laity sessions will be on Fourth day/Next Steps, Sponsorship, Servant leader-

ship, Board of Directors and two others selected to keep Emmaus & Chrysalis vibrant in

WNY. The event will be starting at 9:00AM and run until 4:00PM.

The local gatherings will be providing lunch with a $5.00 donation. Please be sure to

pre-register with Kathy Wessel so we can have an accurate count for lunch. You can phone or

e-mail Kathy to register at: [email protected] or 585-547-9221.

“The Gift” is a program that The Upper Room has set up to help fund & establish new

communities. This year they are supporting a new Emmaus Community in Chili. They help

with getting supplies, materials & sponsorship costs. Many of our local gatherings have sent

donations over the past few years, as well as Lora taking a Donation from WNY to Nashville

last year. We will be taking a collection to support The Gift on June 7. You can learn more

about The Gift program on The Upper Room web site & click on the Walk to Emmaus link.

This is a great opportunity for all of us to learn more about Walk to Emmaus &

strengthen our fourth day. We hope to see all of you in Hamburg on June 7th.

Community Lay Director Minute Thank you to all in the WNY community for supporting Walk #46 in so many ways. We have heard

many positive & exciting comments from the new community members, and also from the teams. God

is good. We hope to see you at the Walk reunion on April 26th at the Akron UMC.

We are pleased to announce Walk #47 taking place this fall at Christ United Methodist Church in Olean.

Calling All Clowns and Those Who Want To Be

As you are aware clowning is a very important part of the Chrysalis experience. Actually,

clowning can be a very important part of Christian Ministry.

Being this is such an awesome way to show God's love, I would invite those that are in-

terest, or even curious, to contact me. We are looking to build the number of clowns involved

in Chrysalis and all are welcome. In fact, all are encouraged to explore this wonderful ministry.

This is another avenue to show God's love to our brothers and sisters. If you would like to

know more or have an idea to put on the red nose and funny shoes, please contact me. We will

set up a time and place when we find out who is interested and when they are available. Please contact me at 585-

301-1039 (text or voice) or jtmtst@rochester,rr,com. God bless, John (Nickels) Trowbridge

Quick message from Supplies: Jeff & Char Smith

Are you looking for an agape opportunity? We had an unfortunate accident during the

last set of walks where three of our chalices were broken. We have purchased some

lovely myrtlewood chalices with platens to replace them. The good news is that these

are not nearly as fragile, however we could use some help to offset the cost. Anyone

interested in contributing toward the cost of the chalices, send your donation to the

treasurers. Make checks payable to WNY Walk to Emmaus and send to Paul & Mary

Kay Williams, 5362 Depot Street, West Valley, NY 14171. Please note on the check

that it is a donation toward the chalices. God Bless You and DeColores!
